EL’s Thompkins selected 1st team East All-District

COLUMBUS -?East Liverpool's Marky Thompkins highlighted area basketball players with a first team selection in Division II for the Associated Press Eastern All-District teams which were released on Wednesday.

Thompkins, a 5-foot-10 senior who surpassed the 1,000-point career mark this season, is averaging 15.5 points per game for the Potters who are 18-3 on the season.

East Liverpool - which will play Indian Creek on Saturday in a Div. II sectional final at Ohio University-Easteern - also received special mention for the rest of its starting five, including Mow Mow Thompson, Christian Kyle, Brian Beverly and Seth Talbott.

Edison senior Mark Smyth (6-3) was named to the third team after averaging 17.9 points per game this season.

Also recognized with special mention locally were Beaver?Local's Troy Hudson, Ryan Smith and Nick Miller; and Edison's Chad Wickham and Austin Abdalla.

Player of the year honors in Div. II were given to St. Clairsville's Dan Monteroso, while coach of the year was Indian Creek's Joe Dunlevy.

On the girls side, Edison senior Kayla Prokapakis was awarded first team honors after averaging 20.2 points per game for the Wildcats.

Edison coach Tony Kovalesky was named coach of the year after leading the Wildcats to a 19-3 mark.

East Liverpool senior Mallory Waggle earned third team honors after averaging 14.7 points per game for the Potters (13-7).

Among those receiving special mention were:?East Liverpool's Whittni Davidson and Kelsie Wymer; Beaver?Local's Allie Bangor, Tenelle Hoppel and Kenzie Weber; Edison's Savannah Snyder and Molly McCoy.
