GREENFORD - The Lowellville Lady Rockets have been a thorn in the side of the Western Reserve Lady Blue Devils for four years. Saturday afternoon, Lowellville completed a three-game sweep of Western Reserve with a 38-29 Division IV district final victory.
It was the eighth time in the last nine meetings the Lady Rockets have beaten the Lady Blue Devils.
Western Reserve hung in with the high-flying Rockets and trailed just 19-17 at the half.
But the third quarter proved to be the Lady Blue Devils' undoing as the team could not muster any scoring and fell into a 12-point deficit they couldn't make up.
Leading Reserve was four-year letter-winner Colleen Kennehan with 13 points. Linley Mamonis added six points, and April Lude and Sissy Stubbs had four apiece.
The Lady Rockets were led by Emily Carlson with 16 points. Kaya Solak added 14 points.
Western Reserve ends the year at 20-4. The team has won 70 games in the last four seasons.
Lowellville (21-2) moves on to play Berlin Hiland Wednesday at Perry High School.
