EAST LIVERPOOL - The track season has began to pick up speed.
The East Liverpool boys have had a busy start to the season as the Potters will be taking part in their third meet of the season today as East Liverpool hosts the Early Bird Relays at the Frank J. Mangano Olympic Memorial Track.
"This relay meet is more of a fun meet. The kids like it. It is a low-key meet, but still you want to compete and do your best. They get pretty fired up for relays. They like running some of those relays.

"We will have some top-notch distance runners here. Those kids from South Range are pretty good, so that will be interesting."
The Potters opened the season by competing Saturday at the Early Bird Invitational Saturday at the Harding Athletic Complex in Steubenville, and then on Tuesday East Liverpool hosted a quad with Oak Glen, Toronto and Madonna.
The Potters finished third at the Early Bird with 59 points, and East Liverpool ended up in second place at the quad with 81. 5 points.
The Oak Glen boys and girls won the quad. The Oak Glen boys finished the meet with 125 points, and the Golden Bears tallied 140 points on the girls side.
"There is not a whole lot to talk about tonight," Thornberry said. It was a long night.
"We got our opening day bumps that we need to smooth out from here on out. We will be all right.
"Our middle relays looked pretty good tonight, the 4x4 and the 4x2 actually got better from Saturday. Like I said, we will be all right."
Today's meet is the second meet of the season for the East Liverpool girls. The Potters were second at the quad meet with 57.5 points.
The girls did not compete at the Early Bird Invitational at Steubenville.
East Liverpool girls head coach Tonyea Roberts said her team will face some good competition today.
"Yeah, but we run a lot of different events Friday," she said. "For example, there is a sprint medley which is a 1,1, 2 and a 4. There is distance medley which is an 8, a 12, a 16 and a 32. The field event people have a 4x1.
"It is a little bit of a different meet. The kids enjoy it."
There will be four boys teams and five girls teams competing today. Edison is also competing at the meet.
