Trailer fire claims life

ELKRUN TOWNSHIP - A 50-year-old man died early Saturday in a fire in his mobile home.

Dave Lewton, Lisbon Volunteer Fire Department chief, said the state fire marshal's office has ruled the fire as accidental and the cause is still undetermined.

The county sheriff's department identified the man as Ronald Guesman Jr.

Lewton said Guesman was already deceased when the department arrived at 8:30 a.m. at the trailer on Pine Hollow Road in the southeast corner of Elkrun Township, just west of state Route 7.

The Negley Volunteer Fire Department was initially called to the fire at 8:17 a.m. and the crew contacted the Lisbon department after learning it was just outside Middleton Township.

Negley firefighters provided mutual aid to the Lisbon crew and a county sheriff's deputy was called to the scene after they discovered firearms in the home.

Lewton said Guesman had the weapons because he was a hunter and the deputy was called to secure them. A relative was notified and the deputy turned over the weapons to them at the scene, according to the sheriff's report.

Because the fire originated in the kitchen, it was the most affected area of the 14- by 70-foot trailer, Lewton said.

No other people were inside the home.

"We are assuming he lived there alone," Lewton said.

Property records available on-line through the county auditor's office indicated Guesman purchased the three-bedroom trailer at 45854 Pine Hollow Road 11 years ago.

A county coroner's investigator took the body to a hospital and Lisbon firefighters were back at the station around noon.
