"I think we're ready to go," Service Safety Director Ken Kenst said during the final organizational meeting for the Salem Super Cruise meeting on Wednesday.
The 7th annual Super Cruise is scheduled for June 20-24 with a "Back to the 50s cruise" at Essex of Salem from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday kicking things off.
Kenst said more than half of the 275 Super Cruise T-shirts have been sold and was thinking of making a another, smaller order.
The shirts are available at city hall for $10 apiece in women's, men's and children's sizes and are for publicity and to help defray some expenses from the city-managed event.
Kenst said 200 of the $10 tickets have been sold for the 1983 Ford Mustang that is being raffled off, sponsored by AMVETS Post 45. The red convertible has under 12,000 miles on it.
Funds raised will be used to help with cruise expenses.
"My goal is to sell 300 tickets before the cruise and 700 during the cruise at the registration desk," Kenst said.
Tickets are on sale at city hall, BB Rooners, the Elks, Hose Club and Smith Oil.
Kenst said the vendors "are pretty well booked" and entertainment is set and the
parking is covered.
East Second Street between North Lincoln and North Broadway avenues will be closed off on Friday at about 5 p.m. and used for one-way, west to eastbound traffic.
It will be closed off at 1 or 2 p.m. on Saturday to facilitate extra cruise car parking in the municipal parking lot off of East Second Street.
A 20-foot by 3-foot banner welcoming cruisers and spectators has been ordered and will be strung across East State Street at some point. Kenst said it will be near the Circle K store in the 1100 block, but Tom Hall, one of the organizers suggested it be placed in the downtown area.
Hall and Sam Sicilia, organizers for the annual Expert Tire of Salem Show and Shine car show, said last month that "everything is good to go with us."
The Expert Tire car show begins at 11 a.m. and runs to 3 p.m. on Sunday with a $5 donation that will help defray city expenses. The show features some top street rods and hot rods in the area with dash plaques to the first 100 participants.
There are 100 dash plaques that will be given out at the show 'n shine and 400 for Super Cruise registrants.
Kenst said, "We're ready right now' and didn't see a reason for another meeting before the event.
Two weeks and counting.
