South Range board hears Apple’s pitch

June 20, 2012
By KEVIN HOWELL , Salem News

BEAVER TOWNSHIP- The South Range school board hosted an Apple representative at its regular board meeting Monday night.

According to schools Superintendent Dennis Dunham, the representative spoke to the board about iPads and how they can be used in the classroom.

Dunham noted that although the board is not currently looking at adding any technological devices for the upcoming school year, the district administration is always looking for ways to advance technology to positively impact the students.

"There are a lot of thoughts and considerations to be discussed and I want the board to have an idea of what's out there," he said.

This past school year, the sixth-grade teachers received GPS units through a Martha Holden Jennings Grant to foster team work in the classrooms in subject-oriented content across all subjects.

In other business, the board hired Ericka Burkey as a high school guidance counselor, adopted 2012-2013 handbooks for all three schools, and approved a calamity day online alternative for 2012-2013 for the first three days over the allotted calamity allowance.

A special board meeting is scheduled for 7 a.m. June 29 at the K-12 campus to approve Fiscal Year 2012 final appropriations.

The next regular board meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. July 16 at the K-12 campus.
