James D. Evans Jr. receives commission

James D. Evans Jr. of Berlin Center graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. on May 23.

He earned a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Force as well as a bachelor's of science degree in economics.

During his time at the Academy, he held numerous leadership positions which resulted in ranking his military performance in the top 5 percent of his class.

2nd Lt. Evans was awarded the 1st Lt. Roslyn L. Schulte Award by the Center for Character and Leadership Development. Out of 1,087 graduates, this award is presented to a "cadet who embodies the same impeccable character, unwavering leadership, and spirit of service that distinguished Lieutenant Schulte in a sea of elite."

He is on his way to McChord Air Force Base near Seattle where he will serve as an Aircraft Maintenance Officer.

2nd Lt. Evans is a 2008 graduate of Western Reserve High School and is the son of Jim and Pam Evans of Berlin Center and the grandson of John and Nancy Dudley, Lola Evans and the late Earl Evans.
