COLUMBIANA
- Police responded to a false alarm activation at the Columbiana Dodge building at 1:20 a.m. Wednesday.
- A caller reported someone in a blue Ford pickup truck ran him off the road on South Main Street at 2:17 a.m. Wednesday.
- A resident of South Vine Street reported at 9:19 a.m. Wednesday his 12-year-old son was being unruly with his mother and he wanted an officer to speak with the youth.
-A caller reported at 2:38 p.m. Wednesday that fireworks were being set off in the middle of the road near the underpass, and the fireworks were striking cars.
-A caller reported fireworks were being shot off in the area of Dixon Elementary School at 9 p.m. Wednesday. Police stood by but did not see any fireworks being shot off.
- A caller reported there was a suspicious person in the vicinity of West Railroad Street at 9:44 p.m. Wednesday.
- A caller reported seeing some youths smoking marijuana in a red Chevrolet Impala at Firestone Park at 10:23 p.m. Wednesday. The vehicle was gone by the time police reached the area.
SALEM
- A Leetonia resident reported at 3:12 p.m. Thursday that she was contacted by a man via phone on June 18 who said she had no insurance on her vehicle in two years. She was told his agency could cover her vehicle and requested her banking information, which she gave to him. She then found that $2,399 had been deducted from her checking account from her bank. She later realized she does have insurance and it appears he was selling a warranty on her vehicle.
- Chad Bash, of the 1100 block of Maple Street, reported at 10:19 a.m. Thursday that someone threw eggs at his vehicle while it was parked on the street in front of the residence overnight.
- Police responded to a call of wires down in an alley running north/south in the 600 block of East Fourth Street at 10:16 a.m. Thursday. It appeared to be phone lines, with a resident saying his phone was out. The phone company was contacted and the road and alley opened to traffic.
- Officers responded to a tree down with wires blocking the street in the 900 block of Fair Avenue at 9:30 a.m. Thursday. Ohio Edison was contacted to repair the downed lines and the city service department responded to help block the road.
- Police were called at 7:58 a.m. Thursday to the Salem Community Hospital emergency department for a male patient being disruptive and wanting to leave against doctor's orders. An officer explained that he was not legally permitted to leave until released by the doctor due to his injuries. The man was using profanities and was uncooperative, demanding to leave. Officers and staff were able to calm him enough to allow treatment to continue. While undressing himself, the man threw his bloody T-shirt that he was wearing directly at a nurse, striking the nurse in the face. He was told to stop. Charges are to be filed regarding the assault. Officers left the hospital, but hospital security remained. The man had been taken to the hospital for a self-inflicted wound.
-An officer responded to the Salem Reservoir off of Gamble Road at 5:06 a.m. Thursday for a report of a vehicle partially in the water. The officer located the vehicle, a yellow Dodge Charger, and noted it appeared the vehicle left the right side of the road and ran straight into the water. Nobody was found inside the vehicle, which had a West Virginia registration. The vehicle had been reported stolen Thursday and entered into the law enforcement data base by the Columbiana County post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The car was towed, with an investigation pending.
- David A. Tedder, 47, whose last known address was listed as Rose Avenue, was charged with a minor misdemeanor for open container after officers saw a suspicious man seated on a bench at the rear of the Salem Public Library on East State Street at 2:59 a.m. Thursday and approached to investigate. The man was bleeding from his hand and had blood on his clothing and property, but refused medical attention. He explained he was injured while operating his chain saw, which he had in his possession. The report said the man, identified as Tedder, was intoxicated and in possession of an open container of an alcoholic beverage. A taxi was called to take him to a location outside the city.
- Police responded at 2:18 a.m. Thursday to a business in the 100 block of East State Street for an open front door. Officers checked the interior and found nobody inside, securing the doors before leaving.
- Police responded to the 1300 block of Fairview Avenue at 1:52 a.m. Thursday to speak to a woman about a known male threatening her via text messages on her cell phone.
- A woman called at 1:29 a.m. Thursday from the 900 block of East Third Street, requesting removal of a man from the residence. She said her sister and her sister's boyfriend were arguing and he bit her sister on the arm. The report said he was intoxicated and the sister didn't want to file charges. The woman was told he couldn't be forced to leave since they all live there together. They were all told to stay away from each other for the night.
- Police responded to several fireworks complaints early Thursday and late Wednesday throughout the city, including a call at 11:33 p.m. Wednesday for loud fireworks described as an explosion like from an M-80. No one was located.
- Police responded to the 1800 block of East State Street at 10:50 p.m. Wednesday for a tree and lines down in the road. The city fire department also responded and removed the lines from the road after verifying they were not electrical. The fire department also cut the tree in several locations so it could be moved to the curb lawn area since it was blocking a state route, until street department personnel were available to remove it.
- A possible intoxicated driver was reported at 10:23 p.m. Wednesday in the city in a blue Chevy Silverado. The vehicle could not be found.
- Police responded to the 700 block of East Pershing Street to speak to Dewey Souers about a theft he reported at 9:42 p.m. Wednesday. After talking with him, an officer explained the complaint was civil in nature.
- Diana Franklin, of the 1200 block of Southeast Boulevard, reported at 9:20 p.m. Wednesday that she had not heard from her adult son in four days and was concerned for his well-being. It was believed he may have left the area. She said she heard a photo of him was posted on Facebook as recently as Tuesday.
- Police were called at 9:01 p.m. Wednesday to the 1100 block of South Lincoln Avenue, along with firefighters, regarding a burning complaint. A man was burning pages from a book at the rear of an apartment. Firefighters extinguished the small fire which was in a burn barrell and the man was told he could not burn in such close proximity to buildings and a fence. He said he would use a paper shredder instead to finish getting rid of the book.
- Police responded to Centennial Park at 8:56 p.m. and 8:42 p.m. on Wednesday regarding speeding Volkswagens, one a silver VW Beetle and the other a black VW. Both drivers were told about the posted 10 mph speed limit in the park and to be more cautious.
- An illegally parked car was reported at 8:54 p.m. Wednesday in the 500 block of Walnut Street. The driver said items had been unloaded and the vehicle was promptly moved.
- George Dilling, 41, of 1266 E. Pershing St., was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence and failure to yield from a stop sign after police were called at 7:29 p.m. Wednesday for a possible intoxicated driver in a white truck.
- Police responded to a gas station in the 2300 block of East State Street after receiving a call at 6:16 p.m. Wednesday from a customer who said he opened the door and tripped an alarm and nobody was inside. It appeared an employee had locked up the business but one of the doors did not fully latch, allowing it to be opened. The employee also forgot to remove the open signs from the window, further confusing customers who were still trying to pump gas with the pumps shut off.
- Police were called for a dog at large at Waterworth Memorial Park at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday.
- An officer on patrol at 4:24 p.m. Wednesday noticed a vehicle parked at Centennial Park with the stereo system turned up excessively loud. The driver was told to turn it down, then the officer checked the registration and discovered it was expired. He also found the 2013 sticker did not belong on that vehicle. The driver's father was the registered owner of both the license plate and the expiration sticker and had apparently mixed up the stickers while applying them to the plates. The driver was told he needed to correct the problem.
- A woman in the 1100 block of Prospect Street reported at 12:17 p.m. Wednesday that she lost her driver's license and debit card somewhere in the city.
- Police were called at 9:16 a.m. Wednesday to the 600 block of East Fourth Street for a custody dispute. A man said he was there to pick up his son's daughter for visitation and showed a court order saying his son had visitation on July 4 of even years. The resident said the girl and her mother were not there and he wanted something done about the man trespassing. He was told the man was not trespassing and that his girlfriend was in contempt for failing to abide by the court order for visitation. The man was told to contact an attorney.
- A woman in the 1100 block of East Third Street reported at 9:27 a.m. Wednesday some inappropriate activity that allegedly occurred between juveniles known to her. The report will be sent to Children Services.
