Survivor's of Suicide

meeting set July 19

LISBON- Help Hotline Crisis Center's Support Group of the Survivor's of Suicide in Columbiana County will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 19 at the Columbiana Counseling Center on state Route 154 in Lisbon. It is a support group for families who have lost a loved one to suicide. For information call Help Hotline Crisis Center Inc. at 330-424-7767.

Farm to Fork Dinner set at White House Fruit Farms

CANFIELD- The first Farm to Fork Dinner, presented by Key Bank, will be held at 5 p.m. July 29 at White House Fruit Farm. The evening will feature a complete menu of locally grown and produced items, private shopping in the White House market, wagon tours of the farm and orchard and musical entertainment by the Teddy Pantelas Duo.

The outdoor fresh-from-the-farm dinner and desserts will feature ingredients from White House Fruit Farm and a number of other local suppliers, prepared by Stephen Grant, executive chef of The Youngstown Club.

A number of tickets are still available at $100 per person. Seating is limited to 100. Those interested should call Tara Mady of the United Way at 330-746-8494.

White House Fruit Farm is located on U.S. Route 62 just south of Canfield near the intersection of Western Reserve Road.

SALEM- The Salem High School Class of 1956 luncheon will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Salem Hills Golf and Country Club. Spouses and friends welcome

Baby and Toddler Olympics

at Salem Library Saturday

SALEM- The Salem Public Library will host a Baby and Toddler Olympics at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Quaker Room. The program is for babies who are mobile up to age 36 months and will feature several age-appropriate activities such as crawling races, a mini-obstacle course and other fun sports. All participants will receive a "gold medal." Adult participation is required with each child. The program is free, but registration is necessary. Columbiana County Archives and Research Center open

LISBON- The Columbiana County Archives and Research Center will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday for those interested in genealogy research. CCARC has added many new records and has a wide variety of information available for research. It is located at 129 S. Market St.

First Aid, CPR certification class set in East Liverpool

EAST LIVERPOOL- Ohio Valley Home Health Services Inc. (OVHHS) will host a First Aid and CPR certification class on Tuesday, July 17, at the "Community Education Center" at OVHHS, located at 15679 state Route 170. The CPR portion of the class will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. and First Aid from 8 to 10 p.m. The courses may be taken together for the full four hours or separately. The fee for the class is $40 for both CPR and First Aid, or $20 for a single course. OVHHS recognizes the importance of learning and re-learning CPR and First Aid for all those living in the community and urge everyone to become certified, if not already.

The First Aid and CPR course will be offered monthly to area residents in need of the certification for either professional or personal reasons. Blood drive at Damascus United Methodist Church

DAMASCUS- The Damascus, Beloit and Goshen Center Ruritan clubs are co-sponsoring a Red Cross Blood Drive from 1 to 7 p.m. July 17 at the Damascus United Methodist Church on Valley Road. Donors will receive an American Red Cross T-shirt honoring those who serve, while supplies last.

Beekeepers to meet Sunday

BERLIN CENTER- The Columbiana-Mahoning County Beekeepers monthly meeting is scheduled for 2 p.m. (lunch at 1 p.m.) Sunday at the home of Jodie and Angel Algarin, 15460 W. Western Reserve Road. Bring chairs.

Ellsworth School Reunion

set at VFW Hall Aug. 4

ELLSWORTH- The 78th Annual Ellsworth School Reunion will be held at 12:30 p.m. Aug. 4 at the Ellsworth VFW Hall on Ellsworth Road, with a covered dish lunch. All teachers and students who attended Ellsworth Township schools before the consolidation with Berlin Center are invited to attend. Families and classmates welcome. Bring a covered dish, personal table service and an item for the white elephant auction. Beverages will be furnished.

Leetonia Library Nonfiction Book Discussion group

LEETONIA- The Leetonia Community Public Library Nonfiction Book Discussion group will meet at 6 p.m. Monday at the library. The book topic is "Bright-Sided: How Positive Thinking is Undermining America" by Barbara Ehrenreich, the author of the bestselling "Nickel and Dimed." According to some critics "Bright-Sided" succeeds in myth-busting the false promises of positive thinking and explains how eternal optimism and positive thinking leads people to not accept negative outcomes-like the housing crisis and serious financial problems which helped lead to the country's current economic disaster.

The Fiction Book Discussion group at 10 a.m. Aug. 1 to discuss Ann Tatlock's "A Room of My Own," a work of Christian fiction. One family's journey through the Great Depression is eloquently portrayed in this first novel by Tatlock. This well-told story will certainly take the reader back in time to experience life with the people of "Soo City."

Copies of both books are available at the library.

Euchre party at Butler Grange

BUTLER TOWNSHIP- The Butler Grange will host an euchre party at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the grange, one mile west of state Route 9 at the corner of Winona Road and Butler Grange Road.

Lunch & Learn program at Sterling House Thursday

Applications for Leadership Columbiana County accepted

SALEM- Applications for the next session of Leadership Columbiana County are currently available at www.leadershipcolumbianacounty.com/Application.aspx. The next class session begins on Wednesday, Sept. 12.

Modeled after successful leadership programs across the nation, Leadership Columbiana County offers a dynamic learning experience. Professional educators, business leaders and county officials provide training in areas such as Project Management, Interpersonal Communication, Team Building/Motivation and Goal Setting. Participants gain an appreciation for all that Columbiana County has to offer while building leadership capacity in business, public and non-profit organizations within Columbiana County. They learn to equip themselves for situations dealing with the county's future by attaining the leadership skills necessary to guide Columbiana County through change and into a viable future. Sessions teach and ultimately motivate the future leaders of Columbiana County to think strategically about their businesses and the overall region.

Healthy Steps 5K Run/Walk planned July 28 in Salem

SALEM- Salem Community Hospital's Teen Volunteer Program, in collaboration with the SCH Charitable Foundation and Salem Community Center, will sponsor the second annual Healthy Steps 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, July 28. The course will begin at the Salem Community Center, located at 1098 N. Ellsworth Ave., and continue through adjacent Waterworth Memorial Park. Proceeds from the event will benefit cancer programs at Salem Community Hospital and the Salem Community Center's STOMP fitness program for kids.

Participants are encouraged to pre-register by July 20 to receive an event t-shirt. Pre-registration is $16 and can be completed online by visiting the Healthy Steps event page at www.active.com. Please note that a small service fee will be applied to online registration through active.com. Registration can also be completed by accessing Salem Community Hospital's web site, www.salemhosp.com, and clicking on "Coming Events." Select the Healthy Steps 5K Run/Walk link on the calendar to print the registration form. Registration can also be completed by calling the hospital's volunteer services coordinator at 330-332-7126. The cost is $20 to register the day of the event. Checks should be made payable to the SCH Charitable Foundation.

Event parking will be in the Community Center parking lot. Runners and walkers should report to the Salem Community Center's field house to check in on the day of the event, beginning at 8:45 a.m. The run/walk will begin at 10 a.m. Concessions will be available for participants and spectators. Overview of Homer Laughlin China Co. in Columbiana

COLUMBIANA- Dave Conley from the Homer Laughlin China Company will present a historic overview of the Homer Laughlin China Company from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. July 17 at the Columbiana Public Library. Learn about Shakespeare and Homer Laughlin's creation of the company and its now famous Fiesta dinnerware, and how the company continues to flourish today while many of its competitors have gone.
