GUILFORD LAKE- The participants of the 30th annual July 4th Guilford Lake Boat Parade met July 7 at the State Park picnic pavilion for the awards picnic.
Joyce Lasky, the 2012 commodore, awarded trophies to the first three place winners. Under this year's theme of "Your Favorite Holiday," first place went to Jason and Carol Brown's Halloween boat; second to Madalyn James' April's Fools Day; and fourth to Rilla Gill's St. Patrick's Day boat. Third place winners, the Marc Bloor family's Easter boat, were not in attendance. A new traveling Commodore's Cup was given to the first place winners, Jason and Carol Brown, and Nathan and Angela Benner.
Peggy Leone, one of the original boaters who started the parade, was honored for her continuous participation for 30 years in the parade. Bob Gause, Guilford Lake Civic Association president, presented her with the "retired" traveling Commodore's Cup.
