COLUMBIANA-John Edwin Ward, 94, died at 2:20 a.m. Wednesday at Whispering Pines Village.
Mr. Ward was born June 19, 1918 in Columbiana, a son of John L. and Ola DeRhodes Ward and had lived in this area all of his life.
John was a farmer in this area and also drove school bus for East Palestine Schools for 20 years. He had served on the board of directors for the former State Savings & Loan of East Palestine where he also served as an appraiser. He was a member of East Fairfield United Methodist Church and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
His first wife, the former Ruth I. Saviers, whom he married, July 6, 1942, died July 1, 1998. His second wife, the former Dorothy A. Gibson, whom he married Aug. 30, 2001, died Feb. 9, 2012.
He is survived by his daughter, Nancy (Roger) Farmer of Columbiana; his son, Jerry (Cheryl) Ward of Columbiana; his brother, Fred (Lillian) Ward of Columbiana; five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Ann Ward.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana with Rev. Michael Namy officiating. Burial will follow in Columbiana Cemetery where military honors will be accorded by the Benjamin Firestone Post #290 Honor Guard. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
