Police were advised Wednesday by Ohio Edison that a helicopter from its vegetation management program will be flying in the area today and Friday.

David Turner, external affairs manager for First Energy, said Wednesday the helicopter will be performing a routine inspection of the transmission lines and circuits.

He said the company was advising emergency personnel to make sure people know the helicopter will be in the area. "It's part of an ongoing inspection process," Turner said.

Lt. Don Beeson said the department was advised by Ohio Edison that a blue and white helicopter will be in the air performing aerial surveillance along the company's high-voltage transmission lines.

"It will be flying low and slow," he said, adding no area was specified but he got the impression it would be flying over the west end of town.

"They won't be cutting," Beeson said, adding police wanted to get the word out so they "don't' get bombarded with calls."
