HANOVERTON- Retiring United Superintendent RuthAnn Rinto has been recognized for her service to the district with the highest honor for non-alumni.
The school board Thursday night granted Rinto an honorary diploma at her last board meeting. She retires on July 31.
"I am truly honored," said an emotional Rinto. "It really has been my pleasure to be here. I've always wished I was graduated from the district."

Rinto has been with the district for 22 years as an elementary and high school principal, as well as superintendent for the past three. She said she didn't even know where United was when she applied for the elementary principal position while with the Minerva school district.
"[A colleague] called United a country school, but it's not a country school, it's a school in the country," she said. "We send our kids out into the world."
In other business, the board hired Morgan Hiltbrand as a sixth-grade teacher and Mike Ward as part-time retiree to teach business and health courses for the 2012-2013 school year.
The board also named to the high school Curriculum Council to analyze state assessment test results Samantha Muniz and Michele Bacha, language arts; Todd Sarchet and Kenneth Beaumariage, math; Mary Ann Prosko and Toni Beam, science; and Curtis Jones and Lorraine Raymond, social studies.
Additionally the board approved an ambulance agreement with EMT Inc. for service for 29 athletic events for approximately $4,350; and accepted donations of $1,451.94 to the high school art department from Mr. and Mrs. Matthews, $25 to the high school principal's fund for the student trip to China from Mr. and Mrs. Doyle and $190 to the eighth-grade field trip from Mrs. Van Buren.
