GREEN TOWNSHIP- The grant for grain bin entrapment rescue equipment and training that the Homeworth Volunteer Fire Company received last spring has paid off.
The department helped rescue a victim after responding to an entrapment in Greenford at approximately 7 p.m. Thursday night, according to Fire Chief Brian Baker.
"The equipment was just sitting around and I'd started to question whether we would ever use it," Baker said. "But if you have to use it even once, it's worth it."
The department received the grant through the National Education Center for Agricultural Safety (NECAS), the only recipient of 240 applicants nationwide.
Homeworth personnel traveled 21 miles from the station to the entrapment site and Baker said the department is willing to go wherever needed.
The Damascus Fire Department also responded to assist the Green Township Fire Department on the incident. The Green Township incident report was unavailable at press time.
