LEETONIA- Ruth A. Weikart, 84, died at 12:50 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at the Salem Community Hospital.
Mrs. Weikart was born Oct. 21, 1927, in Salem, a daughter of the late Alfred David and Eva R. Martin Swaney, and had lived in this area all of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where she had also served as a Sunday School teacher. She was a 50-year member of Salem Chapter #344 Order of the Eastern Star and had also volunteered as a librarian aide for Leetonia Schools.
Her husband, Joseph D. Weikart, whom she married Aug. 14, 1949, died Oct. 7, 1992.
She is survived by a daughter, Cynthia A. Weikart of Columbus; a son, James D. (Crystal) Weikart of Leetonia; and two grandsons, Eli D. Weikart and Samuel J. Weikart, both of Leetonia.
A brother, Glenn M. Swaney, is also deceased.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Leetonia with Pastor Kari Lankford officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia, and one hour prior to the services on Friday at the church.
