BELOIT- The West Branch school board Thursday night approved increases to lunch prices in order to stay within state guidelines.
The board raised prices to $2 for elementary and $2.25 for the middle and high schools, an increase of 10 cents for both. According to Treasurer Daniel Telzrow, the increases are needed to remain within USDA regulations to which the school must adhere since it receives funding for the lunch program.
In other news the board hired for the 2012-13 school year Philip Rogers as a high school science teacher and Kelly Brothers as a high school English teacher; and accepted the resignations of Frederick Schlueter as high school math teacher and Kelly Bryte as playground aide. The board also approved the reduction in force (RIF) of music teachers David Evans and Melissa Brand; and rescinded a one-year contract and issued a two-year one to Lindsey Szymanski as school psychologist.
The board also rescinded the rehire provision and accepted the retirement of middle school language
arts teacher Libbie Romigh effective July 26; and hired as Title I tutors for the 2012-13 school year Betty George, Abigail Zimmerman, Jennifer Fye, David Denny, Karen Coffee, Megan Suarez, Cheryl Woolman,Dana Winters, Ashley Bartley, Michele Grund, Treva Cline, Lydia Wilmoth, Laura Enright, Jennifer Rohaley and Jan Ostarchvic.
Also at the meeting, the board approved agreements with NEOLA to provide consulting service and management of school board online policies for the 2012 2013 school year estimated at $2,600 and Synrevoice for a one-year service plan for the automated call system for the 2012 2013 school year estimated at $4,125.
The board also approved a revised fiscal 2013 agreement with ACCESS for Internet and email services as well as other financial, staff and student reporting requirements for a net cost of $52,301.97; and approved a "not to exceed" fixed purchase price of $4.40 per Dth for the purchase of natural gas from the Hess Corporation for delivery Sept. 1, 2012 through Aug. 31, 2013.
The next regular board meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Aug. 30 in the high school media center.
