Salem BOE to meet

SALEM - The Salem City Board of Education will hold a special meeting at 2 p.m. today in the administration building regarding personnel.

Quaker City Band concert

SALEM - The Salem Quaker City Band will perform its third and final concert of the summer at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Salem's Waterworth Memorial Park. The program will feature Tyler Husosky on xylophone and music from Dvorak to Broadway.

Property tax bills mailed

LISBON - County Treasurer Nick Barborak announced second-half property tax bills have been mailed out, with a payment date of Sept. 7. Full payments can also be made at any of the Huntington National Bank branches located in the county, but you must have your bill with you. Barborak said his office is willing to work with anyone who is delinquent on their taxes by entering into a payment plan. For further information, call 330-424-9514.

Son, Ian James Brown, born July 5, to Bruce E. and Kelsey L. Brown, 521 E. Washington St., Lisbon.

Ian weighed 8 pounds and .08 ounces and was 21 inches long. He joins two siblings, Madison Brown, 21; and Sofie Brown, 2.

Maternal grandparents are Marty McClelland, Tim Archer of Ravenna and the late Robert McClelland.

Paternal grandparents are Celia Brown of Salem and Norma Brown of New Middleton and the late Carl Brown.

Great-grandmother is Marge Clark of Ravenna.

Daughter, Addyson JoLynn Zeigler, born at 2:53 p.m. July 6 to Nate Courtney and Danielle Zeigler, 748 E. Pidgeon Road, Salem.

Addyson weighed 7 pounds and 11.6 ounces and was 22 inches long. She joins a brother, Aidan Zeigler, 3.

Maternal grandparents are Darla Zeigler and Dan Zeigler of Salem and Fran Hanley of Middle Ridge.

Paternal grandmother is May Ida Hawkins of Lake Milton.

Great-grandmother is Mary Cappelli of Austintown.

South Range BOE to meet

NORTH LIMA - South Range Local Board of Education will meet in special session at 7 a.m. Wednesday at the BOE office, 11822 South Ave. Members will consider the sale of the North Lima Administration building and equipment/furnishings.

Elkrun road to close

ELKRUN TOWNSHIP - Elkrun Township trustees have announced that Elkton West Point Road between Middle Beaver Road and Cream Ridge Road will be closed on Wednesday for a culvert replacement.

Canned food drive at concert

NORTH LIMA - In an effort to give something back to the community, the Beaver Township Park Board is asking residents attending the concerts in Woodworth Park in August to help with its canned food drive. Canned food items may be dropped off at the park during the free performances from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays at the park. Because seating is limited and the concerts are outdoors, attendees are advised to bring lawn chairs or blankets and to dress comfortably and appropriately for the weather. Salem mayor to speak

SALEM - Mayor John Berlin will be the guest speaker at the Salem Preservation Society meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce building, 713 E. State St. In a roundtable discussion, factors facing the preservation of the buildings downtown, ways the city government can assist in attracting business for the vacant buildings and making this area, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, a viable community asset will be presented. The public is invited to all Preservation Society meetings.

SALEM - The Salem Area Amateur Radio Association will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Salem Public Library's Quaker Room. Guests are welcome.

DAHS 1946-47 meeting

LISBON - The David Anderson High School classes of 1946-47 will meet at noon Thursday at the Taste of Country Restaurant.

Country music jam set

COLUMBIANA -A country music jam is scheduled from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Aug. 2 and 16 at St. Mary's Alzheimer's Center.

Rummage sale set Friday

SALEM - Sterling House Salem at 1916 S. Lincoln Ave. will hold a rummage sale fund raiser and bake sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday. A hot dog lunch for $3 is available. Proceeds will benefit the Alzheimer's Association.

BPW leadership presentation

COLUMBIANA - The Columbiana Area Business and Professional Women will host Sharon McTigue, Ohio Business and Professional Women President for a leadership presentation. Region 3 BPW members and interested parties are welcome to attend the session from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 4 at the Lisbon First United Methodist Church, 114 E. Washington St., Lisbon. Cost is $10.

Spaghetti dinner offered

EAST ROCHESTER - A spaghetti dinner will be served from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the New Alexander Christian Church. Cost is $7 for adults, $3 for ages up to 10, and free for preschool children. Carryouts are available.

Couty music jam in Rogers

LISBON - A country music jam will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 5 and 19 at the Rogers Community Auction dining room.

Compassionate Friends

SALEM - Compassionate Friends will meet at 7 p.m. Aug. 6 at the First Friends Church on Jennings Avenue.

Canfield Community Band

CANFIELD - The Canfield Community Concert Band invites the public to two free concerts. On Monday, the band will perform at 7 p.m. on the Village Green. The band will also present a concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Shepherd of the Valley on West Boulevard in Boardman.

Under the direction of Brian Harris, the band will play several well known pieces such as Gershwin's "Summertime," the fast paced, patriotic "American Salute" based on "When Johnny comes Marching Home," and a medley of songs by Andrew Lloyd Webber including "Superstar," "Don't Cry for Me Argentina," and "Memory." "March to the Movies" will feature several popular movie themes and "Sock Hop Tonight" presents the 50's sounds of "At the Hop," "Venus," "Love Me Tender," and "Rock Around the Clock."

Beaver Local 1967 reunion

LISBON - The Beaver Local High School Class of 1967 will host a reunion on Aug. 11 at the Legends Night Club, 504 Mulberry St., East Liverpool. The festivities begin at 6 p.m. with a social hour. Blood drive at EP church

SALEM - Salem Community Hospital and East Palestine First Church of Christ will sponsor a community blood drive from 1 to 7 p.m. Aug. 14 at the church, 20 W. Martin St., East Palestine. Routine "lifesavers" who have not given since June 19 are eligible, and first-time lifesavers are always welcome.

During the summer months, the pool of donors often decreases due to vacations, school breaks, sports and donors' other commitments. However, during this time of year the need for blood and blood products remains constant.

The Northern Ohio Blood Services Region serves 19 counties in northeast Ohio, including those in Salem Community Hospital's service area. All donations received at SCH-sponsored drives remain in the region to meet the needs of local patients. Appointments may be made by calling 800-GIVE-LIFE.

Toys For Tots Charity Ride

EAST PALESTINE - The second annual Toys For Tots Charity Ride, hosted by Big Dog's Bar and Grille, is slated Aug. 18. All proceeds will benefit the Toys For Tots Foundation. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at Big Dog's Bar and Grille (first bike out at 10 a.m. with last bike in at 5 p.m.) Cost is $20 per bike/vehicle or $10 with the donation of a new toy. The passenger fee is $5 or free with the donation of a new toy. There will be a free breakfast and dinner buffet for all participants, a Chinese auction, 50/50 raffles, and a performance by "Remains of Jade" and DJ Nate Sugar.

United student registration

HANOVERTON - United Local Schools will hold new student registration for the 2012-13 school year on Aug. 9 and 10. Parents may make an appointment with the United Junior/Senior High School and Elementary when they pick up the new student registration packet. The packets may be picked up in the junior/senior high and elementary offices beginning Aug.1. Children who are 5 years old on or before Aug. 1 are eligible to attend kindergarten.

When you register your child, parents must bring their child's birth certificate, Social Security number, immunization records, two proofs of residency and any custody documents, if applicable.
