SALEM
- A man in the 800 block of East Fourth Street reported at 9:36 a.m. Wednesday that a subframe and wiring harness were stolen from his property.
- Barking dogs were reported at 6:22 a.m. Wednesday in the 500 block of West School Street where an officer responded and could hear several dogs barking inside a residence and attempted to make contact with the homeowner, but received no response. A warning tag was left.
- Frank Harrigan, of West Pine Lake Road, was cited for reasonable control after a one-vehicle accident involving the Arrow Disposal garbage truck he was driving at 5:15 a.m. Wednesday. The report said Harrigan was southbound on North Ellsworth Avenue and attempted to turn onto West State Street, but allegedly cut the corner too tight and struck the traffic light pole on the northwest corner of West State Street. The traffic light, pedestrian crosswalk light and street light were all damaged.
- A man on Deming Street reported suspicious people at 5:09 a.m. Wednesday in Mullins Park in the 1200 block of South Lincoln Avenue. An officer found five people in the park and they were made aware of the park hours, checked for warrants and told to leave.
- An anonymous caller at 4:55 a.m. Wednesday reported a suspicious blue truck parked on Woodland Avenue and people unloading the truck and walking several feet to place items in a garage. An officer located the truck and recognized the people from another call when they were loading the truck from a downtown business. Due to the slope of the driveway, they said they were unable to back the truck into the driveway in fear of causing damage to some of the property.
- A man came to the police station at 2:48 a.m. Wednesday to report being assaulted by a male acquaintance while at a tavern on South Broadway Avenue, with injuries visible to his lower lip and left side of his head and face. While he was there, the other male came to the station and said he was confronted by the man who struck him first and that he only defended himself. He had injuries to his lower lip and right hand and planned to go to Salem Community Hospital for treatment. The prosecutor will review the information.
- An anonymous caller at 1:10 a.m. Wednesday reported several juveniles in Centennial Park. Four officers checked the entire park by patrol and by foot and did not find anyone.
- A smell of natural gas was reported at 1:01 a.m. Wednesday in the 300 block of Rose Avenue. The fire department responded and no problem was located.
- Loud persons were reported at 11:16 p.m. Tuesday in the 900 block of South Union Avenue where a resident said they made noise while trying to catch a loose dog.
- A man in the 300 block of East Fifth Street reported someone screaming in an apartment at 9 p.m. Tuesday. A male tenant was contacted and said he was arguing with his mother on the phone. He was warned about the complaint.
- Loud music was reported at 10:47 p.m. Tuesday in the 100 block of West Pershing Street, with an officer responding and able to get the music turned down.
- Loud persons were reported at 10:47 p.m. Tuesday in the 400 block of South Union Avenue. A homeowner was contacted in the area of Union and Oak Street and turned down the music and said they would keep their voices down.
- A dog was reported at large in the 300 block of Sharp Avenue at 8:29 p.m. Tuesday and later secured at its residence. The owner was not home, but an officer was told a resident accidentally let the dog out.
- Several homeless people being assisted by the Columbiana Counseling Center at 7:55 p.m. Tuesday were provided transportation to a motel after coming to the police station. Arrangements had been made for overnight lodging and meals through the Salem Ministerial fund.
- A possible fight was reported in the parking lot of a business in the 1100 block of East State Street. Police learned the people involved had left and the confrontation was verbal in nature. Officers found the people a short time later and they said a group of juveniles had been calling them derogatory names which resulted in an exchange of verbal challenges. They said they left when an employee said the police had been called.
-A caller reported a suspicious male in a vehicle parked in the lot at Waterworth Memorial Park off of Sunset at 6:04 p.m. Tuesday. Police found the vehicle, but no one was inside or around it. Nothing appeared out of the ordinary.
- An anonymous caller reported a dog left in a vehicle in the Walmart parking lot at 5:21 p.m. Tuesday. An officer responded and saw the animal which appeared to be all right. The windows were open.
- A woman in the 300 block of Rose Avenue called at 5:08 p.m. Tuesday to report items were left in the parking bay of her garage, including two folding lounge chairs, two tires and two packs of bottled water. The owners of the items were located and a woman explained the items were removed from a truck to make room for other items. The owner of the property agreed to move the items to the front of her garage bay. The police were called back later by the owner of the items, who said she was moving the items when a man across the street asked if he could have the chairs. She feared he would steal them. Officers spoke to two males and they denied any knowledge of the incident.
- A woman in the 1800 block of Oak Street reported at 5:06 p.m. Tuesday that she went to a bank on Monday for financing and found that a known person had used her identity to open multiple credit accounts, damaging her credit rating. The suspect had amassed a large amount of debt as a result of unauthorized accounts, with the debts totaling $10,090. At least three of the accounts were opened in 2010.
- Police met with a complainant outside of Mike's Penn Avenue Grill on East State Street at 4:40 p.m. Tuesday who reported a male known to a female employee has been harassing and threatening him and the employee.
- A man from the 700 block of West Wilson Street reported at 2:22 p.m. Tuesday that sometime in June, an unknown person used his bank card number at a place in Boardman.
- A report of a person asleep in a vehicle parked on the street was reported at 11:42 a.m. Tuesday in the area of Robin Avenue and Whinnery Road. A male and female were both found sleeping about a block from her residence. They were told to move on because they were being a concern to neighbors.
LEETONIA
- At 12:18 p.m. July 20, police investigated a report of a van operating in an erratic manner on Beeson Mill Road.
- Police spoke to a female resident in the 900 block of Cherry Valley Road at 4:20 p.m. July 20 in reference to receiving a threatening letter she received in the mail. The complainant was outside the department's jurisdiction and the case was transferred to the appropriate agency.
- Police responded to a report of a broken window in the 300 block of Columbia Street at 9:01 p.m. July 21.
- An officer assisted the Washingtonville Police Department on a domestic disturbance at 2:18 a.m. July 22 in the 100 block of Chris Avenue.
- An officer responded to a complaint of juveniles and marijuana in the 400 block of Sleepy Hollow at 6:29 p.m. July 26.
- Police responded to the 300 block of Ridge Street at 8:28 p.m. July 26 for a missing person report. The person was found.
- An officer responded to the area of Main and Washington streets at 3:19 p.m. July 27 for a report of juveniles messing around near the railroad tracks.
- Michelle M. Humans of Wilhelm Street was charged with driving under suspension, failure to reinstate her license and failure to yield at 7:41 p.m. Friday.
- Police took a menacing complaint from a resident in the 80 block of Coal Alley at 12:25 a.m. Sunday.
- Eric Buday of Columbiana was charged with driving under suspension at 1:25 a.m. Sunday while driving in the 300 block of Main Street.
- A woman with mental issues was reported missing from a residence in the 300 block of Ridge Street at 4:10 a.m. Monday but was found and was OK.
- An officer responded to the 200 block of Main Street at 8:10 p.m. July 18 to a report of a domestic dispute.
- An officer investigated a report of male juveniles walking too close to the railroad tracks west of the Washington Street crossing at 4:49 p.m. July 17.
Columbiana
- Someone reported at 1:26 a.m. Tuesday two dogs on Fairfield School Road that are put outside every night bark all night long. Police checked the area but did not hear any dogs barking.
- A woman reported at 1:48 a.m. Tuesday she heard a woman scream and a male voice in the area of North Elm Street. Police spoke with people in a backyard there and they said they didn't hear anyone screaming although they had yelled at their dogs.
- A woman reported at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday the traffic circle was hit by a vehicle. Police found the vehicle and cited Cornell Barnes, of Youngstown, with failure to control.
- Someone reported at 10:53 a.m. Tuesday a dog was running loose in the area of Fitzpatrick and East Friend streets.
- A woman reported at 12:58 p.m. Tuesday someone was in a wheelchair near Arby's and thought they could be in danger. Police checked the area but did not see the person.
- Columbiana Ford reported at 1:18 p.m. Tuesday three dealer plates were stolen.
- A woman reported at 6:48 p.m. Tuesday a dog was alone in a white blazer parked in the lot near NAPA and all the windows were up. Police found and spoke with the owner who said the air conditioner was running in the car and the dog also had access to food.
- Someone reported at 10:19 p.m. Tuesday a car was in the driveway of a Springfield Road home and the residents weren't there.
