Rev. Richard T. Edgerton

WOOSTER Rev. Richard T. Edgerton, age 83, passed away on Aug. 1, 2012.

Rev. Edgerton was born on Oct. 17, 1928, in Salem, Ohio to Gilbert and Harriet (Triem) Edgerton.

He graduated Salem High School in 1946, and then entered the U.S. Navy serving from 1946 through 1949. He married his high school sweetheart, Beverly Stowell, on June 18, 1949 (she survives).

He attended Ohio Northern University, graduating in 1952 from the College of Pharmacy. He was the owner/operator of Edgerton Drug in Dalton from 1958 to 1971 when he left to start the pharmacy at Wadsworth/Rittman Hospital. In 1979, he followed a call to the ministry and moved to Washington DC, where he graduated Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, VA in 1982.

A priest at various churches in Ohio, Michigan and Wyoming, Father Edgerton ultimately retired from St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Buffalo, Wyoming. While in Buffalo, he was chaplain at the local hospital and was named Hospice Chaplain of the Year for the state of Wyoming.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Patty Edgerton, brother Charles Edgerton, and niece, Linda Harms

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Beverly, daughter Robin (Mike) McFarren of Dalton, son Michael (Colleen) Edgerton of Wilmington, North Carolina, grandchildren, Eric (Kim) McFarren of Dalton, Phil (Jenny) McFarren of Orrville, Zach (Shelly) McFarren of Dalton, Jael (Zach) Jenkins of Massillon and great grandchildren, Tony, Mario, Tyler, Nicholas, Keller, Riley Scout, Brady, and Fallon as well as brothers, Jim (Dani) Edgerton and Bill (Evelyn) Edgerton, nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012 at 4 p.m. at Living Water Community Church, 200 N. Kurzen Road, Dalton with Pastor Mike McFarren, officiating. The family will receive friends at a reception in the Living Water Connection Pointe following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greater Wayne County, 2525 Back Orrville Rd, Wooster, OH 44691 or to Wayne County Humane Society, 1161 Mechanicsburg Rd., Wooster, OH 44691.
