NORTH LIMA - Carl E. Shank, 89, of North Lima, passed away at Hospice House in Poland Saturday evening.
Mr. Shank was born on Oct. 27, 1922, in North Lima, the son of Walter and Mabel (Spiker) Shank, and had been an area resident all his life.
A 1940 graduate of North Lima High School, Carl was a veteran of the Korean War. He spent his early working years as a vegetable farmer selling his produce at Pyatt Street Market in Youngstown, where he met his future wife, Olga.
Mr. Shank is former owner and operator of Wildwood Lake Park, which he designed, built and maintained from its inception in 1964 through 1984.
Mr. Shank is survived by two sons, Jeffrey (Paula) Shank of North Lima and Douglas (Diane) Shank of Sweet Home, Ore.; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Olga Csorba, whom he married on July 10, 1948, and died on Oct. 28, 2001; and a son, Gary.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the North Lima Mennonite Church in North Lima, where he attended his entire life.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to the services Wednesday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of the Valley in memory of Carl. The family has entrusted the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in North Lima with the arrangements.
