HANOVERTON- The United Local school board Thursday night named Tom Clemens as building and grounds supervisor.

The board approved a three-year contract for Clemens, who had been filling the position on a temporary basis since March. He has been with the district for seven years and had previously served as daytime maintenance manager.

According to schools Superintendent Steve Viscounte, the position generated over 30 applicants, nine of whom were interviewed.

"We interviewed a lot of good people, but Tom remained the measuring stick," he said.

In other business, the board hired Valerie Kidder as an intervention tutor for at risk students at the high school, funded by Rural & Lower Income Title VI B money determined by the free and reduce lunch participation at the school, according to high school Principal Bill Young. The position, which has been funded the past three years through the General Fund, was originally scheduled to be cut in this year's Management Goals and Objectives.

The board also hired Kimberly Barth as a part-time intervention tutor for the Louis Tobin Attention Center, funded by Title I D money. According to Treasurer Kathy Davies, the district received more of the funds than usual this year and is required to use them for the Tobin Center.

Additionally, the board approved a supplemental contract for Kelly Dangler as ninth-grade volleyball coach for the 2012-1013 school year.
