CHESTER - Don't be alarmed if you hear the sound of breaking glass and crunching metal in the vicinity of Lawrenceville on Sunday.
It's probably just some Hancock County firefighters trying to get their Level 2 certification with the state of West Virginia.
An estimated 15 firefighters are expected at the training class, to be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Lawrenceville Volunteer Fire Department.
The class will focus on auto extrication, operating foam lines and hydrant testing, said Jason Lively, an instructor with the Chester Volunteer Fire Department.
Participating in the class are firefighters from Newell, Chester, Lawrenceville, New Manchester, New Cumberland, Oakland and Brooke County.
Cars for the auto extrication portion of the class have been donated by Wade's Auto Salvage in Newell, Six Recycling in East Liverpool, and Chaney's Service Station in Chester, said Newell Firefighter Brian Cunningham.
The class is sponsored by the Hancock County Firefighters Association. In order to achieve Level 2 certification, firefighters must complete certain skill sets required by the National Fire Protection Association.
