Congressman to meet with seniors

COLUMBIANA- Whispering Pines Village will host U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson for its "Sit Down with Seniors" from 10:15 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday. The question and answer event will include light refreshments.

Leetonia Ruritans postpone pizza event

LEETONIA- The Leetonia Ruritan Club's annual pizza challenge scheduled for Thursday at the Leetonia School K-12 Campus has been postponed.

Hanoverton council meeting changed

HANOVERTON- The Village of Hanoverton has changed its regular council meeting for September to 7 p.m. Sept. 11 at Village Hall.

LEETONIA- The Leetonia High School Class of 1976 is holding an informal picnic at 5 p.m. Saturday at the home of Cheryl Dudick-Newhouse, 12528 Lisbon Road, Salem. Food is provided. One-day concealed carry class set

SALEM- A one-day Basic Ohio Concealed Carry class taught by NRA certified instructors will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Salem Hunting Club, 549 Indiana Ave. Pre-registration is required. Successful completion of this class enables students to begin the process of applying for an Ohio concealed carry license. Instructors welcome anyone who may be inexperienced with firearms. Range Competency certification is now available for individuals who meet the requirements and are seeking to renew their current Ohio CHL's. This will not require attendance for the entire class. Salem VFW hosts Damaged Goods

SALEM- The Salem VFW Post 892 will host the band Damaged Goods from 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday. There is no cover charge and the concert is open to the public.

LISBON- The David Anderson High School Class of 1963 will meet for breakfast at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Taste of Country.

'Delivery' auditions set in Columbana

COLUMBIANA- Crown Theater Productions is holding auditions for the upcoming production "The Delivery" from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 27 and 28 at the Encore Room next to Main Street Theater, 5 N. Main St. Characters of ages 10 and up are needed.

SALEM- Salem High School Class of 1956 will meet for its bi-monthly luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 12 at Salem Hills Golf and Country Club.

Salem Chamber lunch reservations

SALEM- The Salem Area Chamber of Commerce is accepting reservations for the Sept. 12 Business Connection luncheon featuring Attorney Shawna L'Italien and Attorney Marty Boetcher from Harrington, Hoppe, and Mitchell, LLC. The event will be held at 11:45 a.m. at the Salem Community Center and include a buffet lunch and program entitled, "Employer Handbooks and Employment Practices." Columbiana photo contest planned

COLUMBIANA- The Columbiana Street Fair Amateur Photography Contest will take place this year thanks to the Columbiana Area Tourism Bureau. The CATB will be hosting this year's event as Boy Scout Troop 16 has prior engagements. The American Legion Street fair takes place Sept. 6-8 and all photographs are due to the Tourism office by noon Sept. 4. The office is located inside the Columbiana Area Chamber of Commerce Office, 328 N. Main St.

All details will remain the same for entry as in prior years. Categories are Adults Age 14 and older-Open, Animal, People, I Love This Town, and Computer Enhanced; Children Age 13 and younger-Open and Computer Enhanced. Photographs will be on display in the Commerce Tent at the Street Fair and will be available for pick-up after the street fair at the tourism office. The entry fee remains at $4 per photo. Awards will be presented to first, second and third place in all categories with the exception of People's Choice which receives an award for first place only.

Farm science

review tickets

CANFIELD- Tickets are now available for The Ohio State University Farm Science Review Sept. 18 through 20 in London, Ohio. The review hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 18 and 19 and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Molly Caren Agricultural Center. Tickets cost $5 in advance and can be purchased at the OSU Extension Office in Canfield. Tickets will cost $8 at the gate. Children 5 and younger are admitted free.

This will be the 50th year of the Farm Science Review. Organizers say that despite the many changes that have occurred in agriculture during that time, one thing has remained the same-Ohio's premiere agricultural event is still dedicated to ensuring the best agricultural research, resources, information and access for farmers.

Book club to meet in Columbiana

COLUMBIANA- The Chips & Chatter Book Club for children in grades six, seven and eight will meet at 4 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Columbiana Public Library.

Family Yoga in the Park set in EL

EAST LIVERPOOL- Always Mindful Yoga will be donating all the proceeds from Family Yoga in the Park, 5:30-6:30 p.m. Friday in the amphitheater, to Team Mojo Foundation's Back to School 5K Run & Walk Event. Guest Teacher Kerrianne Wolf (ELHS '87), an active volunteer and mentor with the American Heart and Stroke Association through their Train to End Stroke Marathoning Program, will be leading the class designed specifically for all the race participants. Bring a blanket, mat and donations for Team Mojo.

Pioneer Days crafters needed

EAST LIVERPOOL- The Friends of Beaver Creek State Park are still seeking crafters for Pioneer Craft Days to be held in the Pioneer Village on Oct. 6 and 7. Outdoor spaces are available for a fee of $60 for the weekend. Those wishing to sell items other than crafts may be interested in the Trash and Treasure Sale being held in the Pioneer Village on Sept. 16. Outdoor spaces for Trash and Treasure are only $10. Last concert

planned in Lisbon

LISBON - The Lisbon Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting it's last Concert on the Square Saturday, Aug. 25. The Lisbon Community Chorus will sing from 6 to 6:30 p.m. and "Tribute Band" will play from 6:30 to 8 p.m. This concert will be the last of the summer series.

There also will be a car cruise held in the Columbiana County parking lot from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Judging will be announced at 6 p.m. Trophies, door prizes and a raffle will also be held at this time. There is no fee for either event.

Bring a lawn chair for the concert. Some of the LIsbon stores will be open later. In case of rain, it will be canceled. Any questions about event, please call the LIsbon Area Chamber office at 330-424-1803.

SALEM- Season ticket passes are still available at the Salem Community Theatre for its upcoming 36th season kicking off in September with the award winning musical "The Last Five Years."

The theatre offers several different options of season passes to fit most everyone's needs, including the economy package, the flex pass and the standard full-season ticket package. Theatre manager Gary Kekel is also announcing that the theatre is adding one additional show this year to the season slate, without increasing the season ticket pricing. The upcoming season includes the comedy "A Little Murder Never Hurt Anyone," the musical "City of Angels," the audience interactive hit "Game Show," "The Honkey Tonk Angels Holiday Spectacular" and ending with "Hairspray." Orientation set at West Branch

Orientation and open house for all fifth- and sixth-grade students will be held at West Branch High School at 3 p.m. Aug. 28. The orientation session will begin at the West Branch High School Auditorium and move to the middle school for a building tour. Students will also receive their schedules and bus information. Students are welcome to bring in their school supplies for their locker. Parents are encouraged to attend. Teachers will be present until 4:30 p.m. Any schedules not picked up on during the orientation will be mailed on Aug. 29.

Open house for all seventh- and eighth-grade students will be held at West Branch Middle School at 3 p.m. Aug. 28. Students will receive their schedules, bus information and meet their teachers. Grade seven students should report to the cafeteria and Grade eight students should report to the gymnasium. Students are welcome to bring in their school supplies for their locker. Parents are encouraged to attend. Teachers will be present until 4:30 p.m. A New Student Reception for Grades seven and eight students will be held from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Library with Mrs. Warga, school counselor. Any schedules not picked up during the open house will be mailed on Aug. 29.

Family Challenge set at library

COLUMBIANA- The Columbiana Public Library will host its Million Minute Family Challenge beginning Sept. 1 through the end of the year, encouraging families to play board games and submit the number of minutes played to the library in an attempt to help parents spend time with their children.
