NEW MANCHESTER - The Oak Glen boys' soccer team scored two unanswered goals in the second half to beat local-rival East Liverpool, 3-1, Wednesday night at home at the Bears Den.

Klayton Kosek scored the lone goal for the Potters (1-1-1). Kosek, who has scored two goals on the season, is the only East Liverpool player to score a goal so far this season.

Kevin Bankes made 13 saves in goal for the Potters, and C.J. Harris made four saves.

"Oak Glen is a really good team," first-year East Liverpool head coach Zack Kinsey said. "They are probably one of the best teams we will play all season.

"We played on their brand new turf field, and it was a faster game. They came out fired up. It was the first game ever played on the field, and they came out fired up."

The Golden Bears scored the first goal of the game before Kosek tied the score.

Oak Glen is now 3-0 on the season.

"We battled injuries during the game tonight," Kinsey said. "We battled injuries, and it kind of shook up the team. C.J. got hurt in goal, and he had to come out. That kind of threw off our offense.

"You have to give credit to Oak Glen. They are well coached. They came ready to play. They are a good team."

Oak Glen's next game is at 10 a.m. Saturday against Jefferson County Christian at Wayne Elementary in Bloomingdale.

East Liverpool's next game is at 1 p.m. Saturday against Crestview at Mangano Field as part of a girls' and boys' doubleheader.

"I think this is the toughest part of our schedule," Kinsey said. "We play Crestview Saturday, and then we play Beaver Local on Monday. I think this is the toughest part of our schedule. It is good test for the kids."
