Warren JFK 34, South Range 25
NORTH LIMA -Warren JFK shut out South Range in the fourth quarter and rallied for a 34-25 win in Friday's season opener.
South Range had taken a 25-24 lead on Jake Pfeifer's 13-yard touchdown pass from Ross Stoffer.
Then JFK came back with a 37-yard field goal by Eric Bofenkamp - his second of the night - with 10:08 to play to put the Eagles ahead 27-25.
JFK quarterback Dominic Naples later broke loose on a 37-yard scoring run to make the final score 34-25.
Naples and Alex Rossi combined for 228 yards rushing and accounted for all four JFK touchdowns.
Rossi ran for 134 yards on 12 carries and Naples collected 94 yards on 19 carries.
South Range led 19-10 at halftime as Jake Arsuffi took a short pass and raced 75 yards for a touchdown, while Joey Phillips and David McCabe added second-quarter touchdown runs.
JFK opened the third-quarter scoring with Robert Seger's 27-yard pass from Naples and Rossi's 59-yard run.
Stoffer paced the Raiders by running for 72 yards on seven carries and completing five of nine passes for 141 yards.
South Range will play at Campbell Memorial next Friday.
Kirtland 39, West Branch 7
KIRTLAND - West Branch had a rough opening night in Kirtland falling 39-7.
Kirtland's Damon Washington had 178 yards on 17 carries and two touchdowns. Joe Godec added 82 yards on nine carries and a score.
West Branch's lone score came in the second quarter on a Brenden Wells 88-yard kickoff return. Wells finished the night with 52 yards rushing on 16 carries. Brandon Woolf recovered a fumble and picked off a pass for West Branch.
Kirtland out-gained the Warriors 465-78 on the night.
West Branch returns to action Friday hosting New Philadelphia.
Malvern 34, United 20
MALVERN - Malvern jumped out to a 14-0 lead against United and never looked back in a 34-20 season-opening win.
For the Hornets, Cobin Plessinger tallied 190 yards rushing and two scores. Brady Weber also added two touchdown runs.
For United, Garrett Beech had 14 carries for 140 yards including a 63-yard scoring scamper that cut the lead to 14-7 in the second quarter.
Beech also threw for two touchdowns - one a 10-yard strike to Tyler Lewis, the other an 18-yard toss to Austin Graham.
Mike Martin also finished the game with four receptions for 100 yards for the Eagles.
United (0-1) returns to action next Friday playing host to Salem.
