CANTON -Lexi Hill, a 2010 American Spirit Academy graduate, is making her presence felt on the Malone University women's tennis team.
Hill won her season-opening singles match during the Pioneers' 8-1 victory over visiting Geneva College on Thursday.
Hill defeated Geneva's Sarah Cypher in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 6 singles.

Newcomers Erika Lester and Asia Harris, both freshmen from Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy, provided convincing wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively, while all other Pioneer wins on the match also came in straight sets.
The Pioneers finished 7-13 a season ago. It was the first time Malone has won more than four games since 2007. The last wining season for the Pioneers came in 2000 (14-6).
Malone is coached by Brain Mogus who has been with the program since the fall of 2011.
A native of Canton and graduate of Canton South High School, Mogus served as an assistant with the Pioneer tennis team for one season prior to accepting the head coaching position.
Mogus' prior coaching experience includes serving as a tennis instructor at the Hall of Fame Fitness Center f rom 2003-08 in addition to working as a tennis assitsant at Glenmoor Country Club in 2008-09.
A 2010 Mount Union graduate, Mogus earned a degree in Sport Business and also has a master's degree in Sport Science/Coaching from the University of Akron.
Up next for the Pioneers will be a home match today at 6 p.m. against Thiel. Malone will play its first away game on Saturday at Saginaw Valley State in Michigan.
