Dancing for Reilly Stadium

September 6, 2012
Salem News

Salem Preservation Society Reilly Wall Project Committee members cheer for the Dance for Reilly Stadium, a fundraiser planned from 9 p.m. to midnight Oct. 5 at the Salem Elks, 824 E. State St., reminiscent of a Quaker tradition in the 1960s when Salem High School students attended a dance at the Elks after every home football game. DJ Gene Johnson will spin the oldies, with the doors opening at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door or $8 for pre-sale tickets at B.B. Rooners and Hibbett Sports. There will be a cash bar, so attendees must be 21 years or older. Historic Reilly Wall bricks will be available to purchase. All proceeds from the dance will benefit the Reilly Wall project. Salem High School alums appearing on the steps at the Elks are: front from left, B.J. Abrams, Class of 1968; Elaine Reiter, Class of 1963; and Barb Gorman, Class of 1949; back from left, Karen Carter, Class of 1964; Connie Cranmer and Susie Cope, both Class of 1965; and David Schwartz, Class of 1967.
