GLENMOOR - A man thought to be in his 40s died as the result of a one-car crash on Y&O Road Monday night.
The man, whose identity was not being released last night pending notification of family, was ejected from his vehicle about 10 p.m. after it went off the right side of the road while he was westbound.
The car went off the road near a guardrail, traveled along an embankment and down through a yard, knocking off road signs and strewing parts through the yard before it struck a parked pickup truck and flipped over.
Initially, St. Clair Township police responded to the accident and indicated the driver had apparently fled the scene, according to radio traffic, but within minutes indicated it was a fatality after finding the driver's body in a yard at another residence.
Don Vuletic, a former St. Clair Township fire chief, said he had just arrived at the house and had parked his vehicle at the top of the driveway with his son inside, walking down to the house where the victim's car ended up.
He said he and some other people were standing on the porch when they heard a noise, looked up and saw the car coming at them. It veered off and struck the pickup that was parked in front of the porch.
Vuletic said normally he would have parked his SUV at the lower end of the drive, just where the crashed car landed.
A representative of the coroner's office arrived on the scene just before 11:30 p.m. and Thompson said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
West Point Fire Department assisted at the scene with lighting, and North Star Critical Care was also on the scene to transport the victim's body.
The vehicle was towed by Thrasher's.
