Robert D. Holzer Sr.

EAST PALESTINE - Robert D. Holzer Sr., 89, formerly of East Taggart Street, died at 2:55 a.m. Friday at Essex I of Salem where he had been admitted the day before.

Born May 13, 1923, in Alliance, he was the son of the late Frederick and Ida Vogel Holzer.

Mr. Holzer was a World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps. He had worked for the East Fairfield Coal Company, retiring in 1988.

His wife, the former Margaret H. Vaccaro, whom he married March 27, 1943, preceded him in death on June 13, 2004.

Survivors include two sons, Robert D. (Donna) Holzer Jr. and Anthony (Diana) Holzer, all of East Palestine; three sisters, Betty Evans of Negley, Patty Wilkins of Friendsville, Md., and Eleanor Hull of Columbiana; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Oliver-Linsley Funeral Home (www.oliver-linsley.com). Robert J. Helbeck of the First Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will follow in Glenview Cemetery with military honors provided by the combined units of the American Legion Post #31 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4579.

Friends will be received at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
