The Salem Historical Society has announced a schedule of activities related to Saturday's Family Fall Fun Day to be held at the Dale Shaffer Library on South Lundy Avenue. The committee has planned family-oriented demonstrations. Events will be held between 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Activities will include Bonnie Trimble, shown above, giving demonstrations of the spinning wheel and rope-making. The rope-making will be of special interest to children as they can participate in making shoe laces. Also John Gilbert, dressed in Civil War uniform, will share history and armaments, commemorating the war's 150th anniversary. Members of the Ye Olde Quaker Wood Carvers will be demonstrating. Sam Moore, columnist of the Farm and Dairy, will display his restored 1948 Minneapolis Moline Z tractor, while the Society will display its 1923 "doctor's coupe" Ford at the parking lot. At 1 p.m., in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation, a public reading will be done on the library patio. This is being encouraged throughout Ohio. Cider and other refreshments will be available. These events are in addition to the scheduled Underground Railroad Trolley Tours scheduled for noon and 2 p.m. Reservations are encouraged, but walk-ups are welcomed if space is available. Call the museum for further information, 330-337-8514. (Submitted photo)
