RANDLEMAN, N.C. - Eloise C. Whitslar, 92, of Randleman, formerly of Negley, died at 1:45 a.m. Tuesday at the Adams Farm Living and Rehabilitation in Jamestown, where she had been a resident for the past year.
Born Nov. 21, 1919, in East Palestine, she was the daughter of the late Bert L. and Isabell (Hill) Young.
Mrs. Whitslar and her husband, Merle, had owned and operated the former Whitslar's General Store in Negley from 1950, until their retirement in 1982. She was a member of the Negley United Methodist Church.
Her husband, Merle E. Whitslar, whom she married Feb. 15, 1941, preceded her in death on Sept. 17, 1985. She was also preceded by a son, Larry L. Whitslar on Nov. 6, 2005.
Survivors include a daughter, Peggy L. (Gary) Allshouse, with whom she resided; a sister, Rita Dilling of North Ft. Myers, Fla.; two grandsons; and two great-grandsons.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Oliver-Linsley Funeral Home (www.oliver-linsley.com) in East Palestine with Pastor Kathy Barton of the church officiating. Burial will follow in Glenview Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
