Janet Louise Zimmerman

SALEM - Janet Louise Zimmerman, 86, of Salem, died at 12:20 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, 2012 at the Blossom Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was born June 27, 1926 east of Winona, Ohio to the late Guy H. and Marguerite (Conser) Whinnery.

Mrs. Zimmerman graduated from Salem High School in 1944 and was employed at the Veterans Administration in Washington D.C. while residing in Bethesda, Md. She attended Draughons Business College in Dallas, Texas and was

a secretary at the former Salem Engineering Company.

Janet was a member of the Holy Trinity English Lutheran Church, Columbiana County Farm Bureau, County Jersey Cattle Club and a former 15-year advisor of the Silver Thimble 4-H Club. She received distinguished secretary awards

for 40 years at the former Salem Grange 1261, and was a member of the Pomona, State and National Grange and also a gold sheaf member of the Salem-Butler Grange.

Her husband, James V. Zimmerman, whom she married Jan. 15, 1947, survives her along with three daughters, Judith A. (Glen) Herron, Peggy L. Zimmerman and Amy S. Zimmerman, all of Salem; a son, Wade J. Zimmerman of Salem; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A brother, Virgil L. Whinnery, preceded her in death in 1996.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 24, 2012 at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home with Pastor Connie Sassanella officiating.

Calling hours will be held from 12 Noon to 1:30 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery.
