Theft from vehicle complaints continue in Salem Twp.

FRANKLIN SQUARE - Constable Dan Valentine said he's been receiving a lot of complaints regarding unlocked vehicles being entered and GPS units, cell phones and loose change being removed.

"Leetonia has been getting hit too," he told Salem Township trustees during Wednesday's meeting.

There have also been "a lot of tractor batteries" being stolen, he said, noting the tractors were inside barns.

In other business, trustees approved a fifty-cent an hour pay raise for the two road department employees.

Trustee Chairman John Wilms said they deserve it ... "I wish there was more we could give them."

The raises take effect on Oct. 1. The last raise was in January.

Also, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources sent permit to drill notifications for the Weaver #3H well on state Route 558 about a half-mile east of the bike trail and for the Roy D #8H well on Winona Road a half mile east of Depot Road.

Trustees also approved chip and seal work on Butcher Road.

Trustee William Heston said, "We have to take care of that."

Excavating work in an amount not to exceed $6,000 was authorized for the park and Turbo Excavating was hired for the job.

Also, a purchase order for limestone was approved along with hydraulic fluid for the street department.
