Volleyball

Salem cruises

SALEM - Salem dropped Alliance in straight sets in volleyball action Thursday 25-18, 25-16, 25-4. Taylor Holenchick had 10 kills and Camrin Costal had nine kills and a block.

The Salem jayvee team also beat Alliance tonight 25-11, 25-7. Salem was lead by Courtney Waters and Dori Miller each with 6 kills. Salem (12-3) plays at West Branch on Tuesday

Salem (9-6, 6-4 NBC) plays Tuesday at West Branch.

Western Reserve sweeps Lowellville

BERLIN CENTER - Western Reserve dropped Lowellville 25-11, 25-20, 25-12 Thursday. Marissa Phipps had 14 points and 13 assists. Linley Mamonis added 10 points, three kills and three blocks. Gabby Stubbs added 13 points and eight digs.

Reserve improves to 8-6, 5-3 ITCL Tier 2.

United takes Crestview

COLUMBIANA - United beat Crestview in three sets 25-12, 25-16, 25-22 Thursday. Leading United was Courtney Hydrick with 16 kills and nine digs. Mollie Phillis added eight kills and 15 digs. Sam Spitler added eight kills.

For Crestview, Morgan Newbauer had six kills and 12 assists. Adrienne Huston added 19 digs.

United improves to 8-7, 6-4 ITCL Tier 1.

Crestview won the jayvee affair 25-13, 23-25, 25-21. Abbie Gallagher had eight kills and Bri Cope added 22 assists for the Lady Rebels (9-2).

Logan Daggy had three kills for United (9-2).

Crestview (8-7, 4-6 ITCL Tier 1) plays at Heartland Christian Monday.

Minerva outlasts West Branch

BELOIT - Minerva beat West Branch 22-25, 18-25, 25-16, 25-22, 15-11.

Leading the Lady Lions was Lacy Marshall with 17 points. Maddie Fischer had 30 kills. Jordan Diels had 34 assists.

Kaylee Manning had 16 points and five aces for West Branch. Pavin Heath added 22 assists. Amanda Linhart had nine kills.

West Branch won the jayvee affair 25-23, 25-20. Sarah Weber had eight assists, Paige Walsh added three aces and Dani Lough had eight digs.

Columbiana drops Leetonia

COLUMBIANA - The Columbiana Lady Clippers defeated Leetonia in straight sets 25-4, 25-19, 25-20. Shayla Ray had 12 kills. Cassandra Sampson added 11 kils, Megan Cutlip had nine kills, and Cassidy Stoddard had 34 assists and seven digs.

Kenzie Smith had four kills, nine points, eight assists and nine digs.

Columbiana also won the jayvee contest 25-21, 25-9. Emily Witmer had six points, five aces and seven assists.

Columbiana (9-5, 8-1 ITCL Tier 2) plays at Wellsville Tuesday.

South Range takes

Lisbon

LISBON - South Range defeated Lisbon 25-18, 25-11, 25-16. For Range, Ashley Shetter had 14 kills, six digs, five points and three aces. Stevie Taylor added six digs, 19 points, six kills and four aces.

For Lisbon, Tiffany Ketchum had seven kills, eight digs, an ace and four points. Taylor Siefke added three kills, nine digs and four blocks.

South Range also won the jayvee contest 25-17, 25-11. Taylor Helon had seven aces, 15 points and two digs.

For Lisbon, Jenna Dickson had four digs and three kills.

Boys Soccer

Salem 2, Poland 1

POLAND - The Salem boys soccer team dropped Poland on the road Thursday. Scoring for Salem, both in the second half, were Bradley Larson and Troy Kuhns. Zach Economous had six saves in goal.

Salem (9-3) will play at Alliance on Tuesday.

Crestview 5, United 0

HANOVERTON - The Crestview boys soccer team won its tenth game of the season (10-2-1) Wednesday at United. A scoreless tie at half-time, Crestview scored five in the second half and held United to no shots.

Greg Bable talled three goals for Crestview. Clay Linhart and Edward Miller added goals. Linhart also had an assist as did Josh Gabrick, Andrew Batchelor and Tony Marr added two.

Caleb McCath had 17 stops defensively. Tobin Goss nine, and Noah Roberts eight. Derek Bable earned his fifth shutout of the year with six saves in goal.

Crestview has scored 70 goals in 13 games this season and allowed only 10. It's the team's third-straight season with at least 10 wins, and the Rebels have garnered votes in consecutive weeks for the state's Division III soccer poll.

Crestview hosts Columbiana Monday.

South Range 4,

East Palestine 2

CANFIELD - South Range dropped East Palestine 4-2 to remain tied in league play with Crestview. Andrew O'Leary scored three goals and Patrick McCarthy added a goal on a penalty kick. Tyler Ausnehmer and Andrew Culler each had an assists.

For EP, Peyton Patterson and Billy Bibbee both scored. Jordan Molnar added an assist.

Mooney 6, West Branch 0

BELOIT - West Branch fell 6-0 to Mooney Thursday. Zack Minich had 14 saves in goal for the Warriors. West Branch won the jayvee affair 2-0. Casey Ruthrauff and Josiah Ross both scored goals. Chipper Tuel had eight saves.

Tennis

Brookfield 3, United 2

SALEM - Brookfield topped United 3-2 in tennis action Thursday at the Salem Racquet Club.

United (0-14) begins sectional play Monday.

Freshman Football

Salem vs. Canton South

SALEM - The Salem freshman football team lost 6-0 at home to Canton South.

Tyler McCoy, Josh Campbell and Tyler Simms all played well for the Quakers.

Salem (5-1) is off next week but plays on a date to be determined the week after.

Salem vs. Alliance

SALELM - The Salem eighth grade volleyball team beat against Alliance 25-22, 25-23. Salem is now 8-4 on the year. Leading scorers for Salem were McKenzie Martin with four kills, eight spikes. Emily Null with seven points, four aces. Chloe Cheresne added three kills and seven spikes. Up next for Salem at home is West Branch at home Monday.

Lisbon vs. Mineral Ridge

LISBON - The eighth grade Lisbon Blue Devils volleyball team improved to 8-3 with a win over Mineral Ridge. The scores were 25-19, 18-25 and 25-13. Leigha Cameron scored eight points for the Rams and Devyn Flory scored 16 points for the Blue Devils. Lisbon plays Columbiana and Western Reserve on Saturday at home.
