Mary Swim celebrated becoming 90 years young with family and friends on Sept. 25 at the Essex II nursing facility in Salem where she currently resides. Mrs. Swim was born and raised in Salem, along with 10 sisters and brothers. She is the widow of three husbands, marrying her first husband (Mr. Amburgey) a second time after a 50 year span. From those unions, she has three sons, eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Swim resided in Massillon for almost 50 years, working as a nurse's aide and helping neighboring women with their housework. During those years, she attended the Massillon Baptist Temple where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and helped in the Sociable Sixties group. She is also a published poetist proclaiming her feelings of her faith on paper. She attributes her longevity to family genetics and to her faith in God.
