LISBON - Six candidates threw their hats into the ring to replace Beaver Local Board of Education member Brad Buchheit, who recently stepped down due to additional family and work responsibilities following the untimely death of his wife, Jennifer, at this time last year.
Superintendent Kent Polen said Friday that three of the six withdrew their names prior to being interviewed.
Submitting applications were former district transportation supervisor Ben Springer, Patrick Clutter, Patrick O'Hara, Greg Eisenhart, Doug Hoppel and Christine Bell.
Bell, Hoppel and Springer have withdrawn their names, Polen said, adding that the remaining three have been interviewed and the board has narrowed its search to two of those.
As of Friday, the candidates had not been advised which of the three is not in the running, so the names of the two still being considered are not being published at this time.
A special meeting has been called for Tuesday at which the two candidates will be re-interviewed, with the new member to be named that night.
The board was required by law to wait 10 days after Buchheit's resignation to fill his position and had 30 days in which to do so. The 30-day deadline is next Wednesday.
The term expires November 2013. Buchheit had served 2 1/2 years on the board and was commended at the board's Sept. 13 meeting for his service to the district during that time.
