Leetonia class of 1948 will meet today

LEETONIA -The Leetonia High School Class of 1948 will meet for lunch at 11:30 a.m. today at Das Dutch Haus.

Lisbon BOE will meet today

LISBON - The regular meeting of the Lisbon Exempted Village Board of Education begins at 5 p.m. today in the board room at the BOE office.

Salem Area Retirees will meet Thursday

SALEM - Salem Area Retirees will meet at noon Thursday at the CIO Hall on Prospect Street.

New Year's Eve Salem committee will meet

SALEM - The New Year's Eve Salem Committee meeting begins at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Chappell residence on Eastview Drive.

Fish fry scheduled at Guilford Ruritan Hall

GUILFORD LAKE - The public is invited to an all-you-can-eat fish fry from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Guilford Lake Ruritan Hall on Route 172 at Hanna Drive.

Columbiana High Class of 1961 will meet

COLUMBIANA - The Columbiana High School Class of 1961 will meet for breakfast at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Skyline Diner in Salem.

Mahoning Valley Retreads meet Saturday

AUSTINTOWN - Mahoning Valley Retreads will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday at Denny's located at 4927 Mahoning Ave., Austintown. All bikers are invited along with their co-rider. The only qualifications for membership are to be over 40 years of age and have a love of motorcycling. Membership fees are $15 each or $20 per couple. For more information call 330-717-7825.

Damascus FD hosting open house Saturday

DAMASCUS - The Damascus Fire Department will host an open house from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday. Activities will include a Bounce House, Chinese auction, 50/50 raffle, and the STAT Medevac scheduled to land a helicopter at 2 p.m., weather permitting.

There will also be opportunities for children to dress as a firefighter and spray a fire hose. For more information contact Rylee Hardy 330-271-1837.

Pet Therapy Group hosting contest

ALLIANCE - The Alliance Community Hospital Pet Therapy group, certified through Therapy Dogs International Inc., will hold a royal couple contest. Visitors will be able to vote for their favorite king and queen, with all donations benefiting Sadie's Pet Pantry in Alliance.

Milk cans with each dog's photo will be on display in the cafe during the week of Oct. 15. The top male and female dog collecting the most money will be crowed the royal couple on Oct. 21.

SHS Class of 1943 will meet for breakfast

SALEM - The Salem High School Class of 1943 plans to meet for breakfast at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 16 at Adele's Place.

County Firefighters will meet on Oct. 17

CHESTER, W.Va. - The Columbiana County Firefighters Association's next meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Chester Fire Department.

Historical Society hosting open event

LISBON - The Lisbon Historical Society will host its annual open meeting for the community on Oct. 18 in the New Lisbon Presbyterian Church on the corner of North Market and East Chestnut streets. Parking is available directly north of the church.

A catered dinner is available by reservation only in the church's fellowship hall on the lower level at 6:30 p.m. with a social time at 6 p.m.

Reservations must be made no later than the morning of Oct.15 by calling Charlotte Crothers at 330-424-5930. Cost is $9 and payment must be made at the door or honored if the reservation is not used.

The evening's program is free and open to the public beginning in the auditorium of the church at 7:30 p.m. This room is on the main level and adjacent to the sanctuary. Dr. Rick Shale, recently retired professor of English at Youngstown State University, will present "A History of Idora Park."

He will also share slides and commentary and answer questions. Dr. Shale, a Youngstown native, holds a bachelor's degree, Phi Beta Kappa, from Ohio Wesleyan University, as well as a master's and PhD. in American culture from the University of Michigan.

SHS Class of 1957 will meet on Oct. 20

SALEM - The Salem High School Class of 1957 will meet for lunch at noon Oct. 20 at the Salem Hills Golf and Country Club.

Chase Likens will perform in East Rochester

EAST ROCHESTER - Tri-County Opry will present Chase Likens as its featured performer at 7 p.m. Oct. 20 at West Community Center on U.S. Route 30 in East Rochester.

Likens was a Top 24 finalist on American Idol. Others scheduled to perform include former Nashville artist Jill Jordan Burke, Christian country singer and founder of Sole Purpose Ministries Linda Weber, Kaleigh Craver from Dublin, and Donna Kandel from Minerva.

Bayard Grange will open the kitchen at 6 p.m. Admission is $9 for those 10 and older. Pre-sale tickets are available at the Minerva Chamber of Commerce from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and at the Bayard Grange from 8 to 11 p.m. Oct. 13 (during the square dance) and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 14 (during the chicken dinner) or by calling 330 894-2902.

Apple dumplings orders being taken

NORTH LIMA - Calvary United Methodist Church at 12062 South Ave. is taking orders for homemade apple dumplings.

To place an order call 330-549-5106 or the church at 330-549-2588 and leave your name, quantity wanted, if you want them baked or unbaked and your phone number.

Your order will be confirmed to you. Cost is $2.95 per dumpling. Dumplings will be made on Oct. 25 and 26 and may be picked up at the church from noon to 4 p.m. Oct. 25 and 26 and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 27. A portion of the profits is used for missions.

Walk for Life will be held on Oct. 28

LEETONIA - Lifeline of Columbiana County Pregnancy Center will hold its first Walk for Life on Oct. 28 beginning with opening ceremonies at 2 p.m. at the Greenway Trail at Washington Street in Leetonia.

The Rev. Kari Lankford of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Leetonia will open the walk with a prayer for life. Participants are asked to donate a pledged amount to Lifeline. Each participant can walk as much or as little as they can. To obtain a pledge sheet or for more information call Lifeline at 330-424-5353 or email lifelinecolumbiana@yahoo.com.

SALEM - The Salem Community Center is offering a lifeguard training course from Nov. 5-16. Classes will run weeknights from 5 to 8 p.m. Cost is $220 for members and $260 for non-members. Upon completion participants will receive lifeguard training, first aid, professional rescuer CPR and AED essentials certifications. To register call the SCC at 330-332-5885.

SALEM - Spaces are still available for the Salem Community Center's Holiday Bazaar Extraordinaire to be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 17. Vendor tables are $30 each or $35 with electric.
