No citation was issued Tuesday after truck driver James Spann, 37, of Headland, Alabama, struck and knocked down this light pole at the northeast corner of Lincoln Avenue and State Street at 4:32 p.m. while making a turn from State to North Lincoln, losing a tire in the process. Lt. Dave Casto said damages will be handled through insurance for Spann's employer, Covenant Transport of Edinburgh, Indiana. Police caught up to Spann on Sixth Street where he was looking for a place to pull over. The impact caused a loud noise, which caught the attention of Family Video manager Ami DeMeo, who was near the street corner working on the landscaping. She said she got up and ran, worried that the truck was about to tip over. (Salem News photo by Mary Ann Greier)
