Meryl E. “Mert” Kilbreath

YOUNGSTOWN-Meryl E. "Mert" Kilbreath, 85, of Youngstown, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, at his home following a short illness.

Born Sept. 24, 1927, in Alliance, he was the son of James and Helen (Hartley) Kilbreath. He had formerly lived in Salem.

Mr. Kilbreath retired from AFC Corp in Canfield and returned to work at Austintown School System until he was 82.

He was a member of the Greenford Christian Church and had served in the US Army. He was an avid reader, enjoyed his grandchildren, and had an insatiable appetite for peanut butter.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Georgiana (Wehringer), whom he married on July 6, 1946; children, Linda (Randy) Beeson of Oklahoma, Timothy (Dianne) Kilbreath of Salem, Sandra (Joseph) Gaskill of Austintown and Michael (Marilyn) Kilbreath of Canfield; grandchildren, Michelle (John) Brooks, Eric (Tracy) Beeson, Erin Beeson, Elizabeth Beeson, Kara Gaskill, Laura Gaskill and Emma Kilbreath; six great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Helen Clara Dugan, Carol Wilson, Eugene Kilbreath, John Kilbreath and Robert Hopton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sister, James, Neil, Richard, Margaret, Joseph and Donald Kilbreath.

Friends will be received at the Lane Family Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday. Burial will take place at Hope Cemetery in Salem.

The family would like to thank the staff of Briarfield Manor and MVI Hospice for the kindness and care given to Meryl.
