Drive-thru flu shot clinic set Thursday
SALEM - The Salem Area Visiting Nurse Association is hosting a "drive-thru" flu clinic, weather-permitting, from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at 718 E. Third St. In case of inclement weather, the clinic will be held indoors. Cost is $20. SAVNA will bill Medicare Part B or Anthem Senior Advantage Products (YRA, YRE, YRI and YRS prefixes only). Fall Pops concert set at United Thursday
HANOVERTON -The United Local Vocal Music Department will present its fall Pops Concert at 7 p.m. Thursday in the high school auditorium. Performing will be seventh and eighth-grade choirs, Touch of Gold show choir, high school mixed chorus, concert choir and Flight show choir. Admission is free. The annual basket raffle will take place prior to the concert. All groups are under the direction of Cindy Neiswanger.
Trunk or Treat at First United Methodist
SALEM - The First United Methodist Church will hold its annual Trunk or Treat at 5 p.m. Thursday in the south parking lot on South Broadway Avenue.
The Faithful Hearts group will have a concession stand and also sell "Mumpkins" (mums in a live pumpkin vase.) The event will precede Salem's annual Halloween parade which begins at 6 p.m. with line-up in front of city hall.
Beaver Local BOE to meet Thursday
LISBON - The Beaver Local Board of Education will meet in special session at 6 p.m. Thursday in the administration building conference room, 13093 state Route 7. The purpose of the meeting is to enter into executive session for the purpose of the appointment, employment, dismissal, discipline, promotion, demotion or compensation of an employee or the investigation of charges or complaints against an employee, official, licensee or student and any other matters that come before the board.
MetroParks set oil drilling hearing
CANFIELD - Mill Creek MetroParks will conduct the second of two public hearings regarding the oil and gas industry and its potential effect on Mill Creek MetroParks. The public is invited to attend and share their comments from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at McMahon Hall, MetroParks Farm.
This hearing will include presentations by Representative Robert Hagan; the Guardians of Mill Creek Park, featuring Ted Voneida, Ph.D, Neurobiology, who will speak on the health effects of shale gas hydrofracturing; and Dr. Ray Beiersdorfer, Professor of Geological and Environmental Sciences at Youngstown State University.
Those attending will be asked to sign in prior to speaking, and observe a set of ground rules when they speak. There will be approximately one hour for public comments at each session. For information call Mill Creek MetroParks at 330-702-3000.
Guilford Lake Candidates Night
GUILFORD LAKE - Meet the Candidates Night is being sponsored by the Guilford Lake Civic Association, a non-partisan group, that has extended an open invitation to all candidates who will be on the Nov. 6 ballot. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Ruritan Building on Route 172 at Guilford Lake. Candidates will have time to present themselves and answer questions from the audience. Breakfast buffet set at Salem Masons
SALEM-A public breakfast buffet will be served from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Salem Masonic Building, 788 E. State St. Cost is $6 for adults, $3 for children under age 10 and free for children under 2. The menu offers pancakes, waffles, sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, homemade sausage gravy, biscuits, homefries, toast, fruit cocktail, orange juice, coffee and tea. The building is equipped with a handicapped accessible elevator. Proceeds will be directed to the Salem Masonic Building Fund.

Christmas auction fund raiser planned
LISBON - The First United Methodist Church is hosting its bi-annual Christmas auction fund raiser from 2 to 4 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Columbiana County Career and Technical Center. Proceeds from the auction benefit the church's building fund. There will be live and silent auction bidding on numerous holiday items, handmade crafts and gift packages donated from local businesses.
