NW Finance discusses sewer line project

October 25, 2012
By KEVIN HOWELL , Salem News

NEW WATERFORD- Village residents may be seeing improvements to the sewer line in town.

The Finance Committee Tuesday night met with Jon Vollnogle, president of Howells and Baird civil engineers, to discuss the replacement of the portion of the main sewer line that runs from the water-sewer plant to Main Street.

According to Mayor Shane Patrone, village administration has been considering the project the past couple years and would like to move forward with the project without increasing customers' fees. The administration is working with Howells and Baird to develop preliminary engineering to determine what the project will include and how much it will cost. Currently it is estimated at approximately $564,000, Patrone said.

Patrone said the administration hopes to apply for an Ohio Public Works Commission (OPWC) grant and loan, but are waiting on results from the preliminary engineering to decide if the project is financially feasible for this year. The application is due Nov. 2 and a special meeting to approve moving forward with the application is scheduled for Oct. 30, pending the preliminary engineering results.

Leaf pick up continues: Patrone said leaf pick up is still ongoing. Residents who would like their leaves picked up must bag them place them at the curb. Loose leaves will not be picked up.

Trick-or-Treat time: Trick-or-Treat is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 31.
