LISBON - Democratic and Republican candidates spent quite a bit of money over the past several months, according to pre-election campaign finance reports filed with the Columbiana County Board of Elections.

The filing deadline was Thursday and covered candidate contributions and spending that occurred between April 13, the date of the last campaign finance reporting deadline, and Oct. 17.

Candidates for state office file their reports with the Ohio Secretary of State, and not surprisingly, the race for state representative is where the most money has been spent to date.

According to state records, incumbent Republican Craig Newbold reported spending $231,446, with a significant portion of that coming from the Ohio House Republican Committee, leaving him with a balance of $2,252.

Democrat challenger, Nick Barborak, reported spending $107,518 and a balance of $4,167.

Following is a list of the other campaign finance reports by race:

Commissioner, Jan. 3 term
