Salem Twp. notified of drilling permits

November 2, 2012
By LARRY SHIELDS , Salem News

FRANKLIN SQUARE - Salem Township received two drilling permits for oil and gas wells from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources for the Weaver well on state Route 558 and the Mueller well on McCracken Road, Fiscal Officer Cathy Wilms said Thursday.

Also during Wednesday's meeting, Trustee Ray Heddleson said he had been in contact with the Columbiana County Development office regarding a nuisance property on Golf Club Drive and had been advised to photograph it.

He said an asbestos study would have to be made before demolition action is taken.

In other business, trustees approved a road boring permit for St. Jacob-Logtown Road for the proposed Thomas well and said they will advertise for bids for its old 1-ton dump truck.

The bids will be opened at the last meeting in November. The truck was replaced by a 2001 International 4700 that the township purchased from the state co-op for $25,787. Wilms said the new truck was delivered, is operational and needs to be lettered.

Also, trustees approved two purchase orders, one for fuel from Lyden Oil and $400 for a fuel pump for the storage tank from Tractor Supply in Salem.

Wilms said trick or treat went off without problems, but that participation seemed to be down by quite a bit.

The township's next regular meeting will be at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 14.
