Helen Burns Bezon is celebrating her 100th birthday. She is the firstborn child to William Burns and Clara Buckel. She was born on Nov. 12, 1912, in Alliance, and graduated from Alliance High School in 1931. She loved to work. She was employed in a pinball factory (now Genie garage door), at Twist Drill, at the Salem pottery, as a glassblower making neon signs, and did taxes, to name a few.
She married Frank Bezon on April 15, 1939, at St. Joseph's Church. They were married 55 years and had five children, Ronnie Bezon of Tennessee, Bonnie and John Dezzutto of Florida, Bob and Janet Bezon of Ohio, Mary Lou and Cliff Banks of Idaho, and Connie and Larry Bedra of Oregon.
She is blessed with 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She taught all her grandchildren to swim, dive and play poker before they were in grade school.
She also had two brothers, Billie and Wilbur.
Mrs. Bezon lived in Lake Oswego, Ore., for 18 years with her daughter Connie. She was active at the senior center there and learned to play her favorite card game bridge when she was in her 80s. She loved books and crossword puzzles. When her eyesight dimmed she taught herself the harmonica and loves to play and listen to music and dance. She also loves saying her rosary and has always lived her faith by putting others first and showing kindness and love to all she meets, especially children.
Many summers were spent in Sandpoint, Idaho, where she now resides at Life Care Center. She would swim the lake and dive off the dock every year until she was 99 years old. She has been a lifetime lover of walking and still gets a few miles in with her HUGO each day.
For 10 years now Mrs. Bezon's family would meet in Las Vegas to celebrate. This year they are gathering in Sandpoint for the big occasion. A casino side trip is planned as part of the festivities.
Birthday wishes may be sent to Helen Bezon, Life Care Center, 1125 North Division Center Street, Sandpoint, Idaho 83864.
