SALEM - The Salem Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring "Light Up Night" at 7 p.m. Nov. 30.

The downtown Christmas lights and the Christmas tree on the front lawn of the Village Green will be turned on as the Salem High School Encore choral group entertains the crowd. Realife Church will provide refreshments.

The residential and business winner of the "Light Up the Night" Christmas light contest will be announced during the ceremony. At the conclusion of the event, Quakertown Trolley rides, co-sponsored by the Salem Historical Society will be given to those who want to view the Christmas light winners.

On Dec. 1, the chamber and the Salem News will host the annual Christmas parade that welcomes Santa Claus to Salem.

The parade will originate at Salem High School's parking lot and proceed down North Lincoln Avenue to East State Street, turn and march westward through the downtown business district and then turn north onto Ellsworth Avenue and disband in the vicinity of the Broadway Plaza.

Applications are available online at www.salemohiochamber.org or by calling the chamber office at 330-337-3473. Parade entrant registration has been extended until Nov. 26.

Santa Claus will visit with children at Key Bank immediately following the parade from 1:30 to 3 p.m. The Interact Club of Salem will provide goody bags to each child. Refreshments will be served by the Salvation Army of Salem. Horse-drawn carriage rides also sponsored by Key Bank will be offered prior to the parade from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and again after the parade from 1:30 to 3 p.m.
