DAMASCUS - The Damascus Garden Club, a member of the Garden Club of Ohio Inc., met at the home of hostess June Wallace on Nov. 8. Co-hostesses were Ginny Huffman and Hilda Spack. Peggy Stoffer, president, opened the meeting and 15 members answered the roll call. Hilda Spack, treasurer, reported that club dues for 2013 are now being collected.

Rhonda Mitchell, Conservation Committee chair, announced that club members will winterize the post office garden. Val Knoedler planted rose bushes at Goshen Township Park. Under Community Care, Knoedler volunteered to provide bud vases for the local blood drive. Joyce Steer, historian, distributed step by step floral arrangement pamphlets to the members in preparation for the club's Dec. 8 floral exhibition. Huffman, Ways and Means chair, reported that the 2013 community calendars are complete and at the printers.

A discussion was held about the sale of the community calendars and Steer made a motion to accept Marilyn Brumbaugh's offer to fund a table on Dec. 8 at the Damascus United Methodist Church's arts and crafts show for sale of the calendars, which will feature a variety of local garden scenes. Knoedler distributed final schedules for the floral exhibit and took sign-ups for the exhibition class entries.

Sandy Kilmer and Mitchell will take care of holiday decorations for the club's part in Light-Up Damascus. Decorating begins at 9 a.m. Nov. 28 at the Pearce House. All club members are asked to participate.

Wallace gave a lesson in bow making for the members to prepare them in incorporating bows as part of their floral exhibit designs for the floral exhibition on Dec. 8. The "Christmas Is" exhibition will take place from 3:00 to 6:30 p.m. in the library of the Damascus Friends Church and is part of the Light-Up Damascus festivities. After a silent auction that featured favorite garden items, a luncheon was served. The December meeting will be hosted by Lee Kuentz with co-hostesses Pat Hoopes and Knoedler. Club officers for 2013 will be installed.
