EAST LIVERPOOL -Kent State University at East Liverpool's sociology students will host "What makes the world go 'round'" from noon to 2 p.m. today in the Slak Shak in the main building.

Santa will visit Salem

Home Depot on Saturday

SALEM - Santa will visit the Salem Home Depot at 2900 E. State St. from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Children of all ages are invited to get their pictures taken with him.

Children are also invited to the "kids workshop" from 9 a.m. to noon to make a picture frame.

host Sandy relief fund raiser

EAST PALESTINE - The Hurricane Sandy relief fund raiser, featuring a bake sale and raffle baskets, will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the First United Presbyterian Church, 109 W. Rebecca St.

All proceeds go to the Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.

Santa Claus will visit

Columbiana Public Library

COLUMBIANA - Children ages 2 to 6 and their families are invited to a holiday event filled with stories, songs and a visit from Santa Claus at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 4 at the Columbiana Public Library.

Adopt an Angel's gift items

NORTH LIMA - Dec. 15 is the deadline to drop off items for the Adopt an Angel's fifth annual Holiday Gift Drive. Drop off locations include:

North Lima Business Complex, 11836 South Ave., North Lima, 330-531-1705; West Side Cats, 2217 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown, 330-792-4228; Trumbull County Adopt an Angel, representative Lisa Zarconi, 330-881-9096. Special pick-up is available for those who qualify.

Items needed include school supplies, cleaning supplies, non-perishable food, clothing, blankets, towels, toiletries, dog/cat food, cat litter, newspaper, office supplies, furniture, children's toys, books, leashes, collars, gift cards, monetary donations. All items collected will be given locally to families and/or animal rescues in need this holiday season.

Wine and Appetizing Tasting

CANFIELD - Adult Career Center students in the Culinary and Restaurant Management program at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center will host a Holiday Wine and Appetizer Tasting for the public from 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 5 at McMahon Hall located at the Mill Creek MetroParks Farm.

Guests will learn more about red and white wines and sample appetizers prepared by the culinary students.

Registration is $45 per person and may be made by calling 330-729-4100.

Families of Homicide Victims

founder hosting toy drive

LISBON - Columbiana County Families of Homicide Victims Inc. founder Belinda Puchajda is sponsoring a toy drive this year for children in need. The toy drive will be held in honor of her mother who passed away on April 27.

"My mom always catered to the needy and homeless and I would like to do this in honor of her," said Puchajda.

This year's toy drive is for children of all ages who have fallen through the cracks of the system and are not on any other list. "We already have 22 kids from ages 2-17 years old that are in need," she said.

Donations may be made at the website www.ccfhv.com (put "toy drive" in the subject of your donation) or by dropping off your unwrapped gifts at Barborak Law Office in Lisbon, East Liverpool City Hall auditor's office, Legends in East Liverpool or KLG Ambulance in Salem. Gifts will be delivered between Dec. 21-24. Anyone knowing of a needy family that qualifies is asked to contact Puchajda at 330-397-1978.

Salem Community Center

offering LAPS session

SALEM - The Salem Community Center is offering another session of Learning to Accelerate your Potential for Swimming (LAPS).

The primary purpose of LAPS is to bridge the gap between swim lessons and competitive swimming strokes with an emphasis on promoting wellness and fitness through the sport of swimming.

Participants can look forward to building aerobic capacity and muscular endurance, improving strokes and fitness levels, building competitive skills, individualized goals based on skill level, and friendly competition through optional time trials. Three age groups are available: Tiger Sharks (ages 7-10), Great Whites (10-15), and adults.

LAPS will run Jan. 13 through April 25 with two sessions per week. For more information call 330-332-5885.

Dog licenses will be sold at

outside vendors, auditor's office

LISBON - Dog licenses for 2013 will go on sale Saturday at the outside vendors and Dec. 3 in the Columbiana County auditor's office until Jan. 31, 2013. Cost is $8 per license. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code 955.01, all dogs 3 months of age and older harbored in Columbiana County must be licensed. If you received a pre-printed application in the mail bring it with you.

Dog license applications may also be mailed to the auditor's office at 105 S. Market St., Lisbon 44432 with a postmark of Jan. 31, 2013, or earlier.

All kennel licenses must be purchased at the county dog pound at 8455 County Home Road, Lisbon. After the Jan. 31 deadline, dog licenses will not be sold at the outside agent locations. They must be purchased through the auditor's office or the county dog pound.

Outside agents will sell the 2013 dog licenses through Jan. 31, 2013, at a cost of $8 per license plus a 75 cent processing fee per application.

Outside agent locations are:

Fish/chicken fry offered Friday

at the Beloit Fire Department

BELOIT - The Beloit Fire Department Association will host its last fish and chicken fry for 2012 from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at station #1, 17893 E. Fifth St. Cost is $10 for an adult meal and $5 for children under 10. There also will be a 50/50 drawing.

LISBON - Family/pet holiday photos with Santa will be available from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Lisbon Gazebo.

All proceeds benefit the Voice for Columbiana County Dogs, a volunteer, non-profit group raising funds for all sick/injured dogs in the Columbiana County Dog Pound.

Christmas Tea and Bazaar

set at First Friends Church

SALEM - A Christmas Tea and Bazaar, hosted by Ozer Ministries, will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the First Friends Church, 1028 Jennings Ave. A $5 donation will benefit Domestic Violence Awareness. A variety of vendors will have items for sale. You do not have to attend the tea to shop. All attendees will be entered in a drawing at 3 p.m. for a gift basket that includes a Walmart gift card. Christmas auction scheduled

at Washingtonville VFW

WASHINGTONVILLE - Donations are still being accepted for the Christmas auction, conducted by Dick and Cheryl Zuti, at 5 p.m. Saturday at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5532 on County Line Road. Doors open at 3 p.m.

Items include brand name toys, "As Seen on TV" items, tools, gifts for men and women, collectibles, Christmas decorations, team sporting goods, etc. The auction is sponsored by the ladies auxiliary. Door prizes will be awarded. A concession stand will be open.

Miles for Morgan 5K Fun Run/Walk set

WINONA - The Miles for Morgan 5K Fun Run/Walk fund raiser begins at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Winona Friends Church, 4615 Whinnery Road. Proceeds from "Miles for Morgan" will be given to Morgan Loudon who has stomach cancer. A free T-shirt will be given to the first 100 people who register. Registration opens at 9 a.m. Cost is $20.
