Marguerite C. Alexee (fka Shaffer Irizarry)

ROYAL OAK, Mich. - Marguerite C. Alexee, 72, passed away at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, Mich., after a brief illness.

Services will be on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at 4 p.m. at the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen and Sons Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Salem. Father Steve Wassie of St. Paul Catholic Church will officiate. A time of visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.

Marguerite was born April 26, 1940, to Anita and James Alexee in Youngstown, Ohio.

Marguerite graduated from South High School in 1958, and graduated from Ohio University in 1962 with a bachelor's degree in journalism. Her life's passion was to help people, which she achieved through her work as an English teacher at Edwards AFB in California and Beaver Local High School in Lisbon. At Beaver Local she also was the adviser for the school newspaper, Beaver Tales, for many years.

After retiring as a teacher she continued her professional career as an adviser with the Boy Scouts of America and counselor at the New Castle Detention Facility in Pennsylvania.

Her hobbies and interests included reading, learning, traveling, cooking for family and friends, tending her garden and recently enrolling in Greek language lessons. She moved to Pontiac, Mich., recently to be closer to her son Michael, his wife Nancy and her precious twin grandsons, whom she enjoyed greatly.

She is survived by her three sons and daughter, Michael (Nancy) Shaffer of Royal Oak, Mich., Timothy Shaffer of Long Beach, Calif., Nicholas Irizarry of Fort Wayne, Ind., Emilia "Lia" Irizarry of Kent; and two grandsons, Gabriel and Jacob Shaffer. She also leaves a sister, Marina (Brian) Grant of Hanoverton; two brothers, George (Dee) Alexee of Canfield; and Michael (JoAnn) Alexee of Hubbard; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and nephew Brian James Grant and beloved aunts, uncles and cousins. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
