Dwight “Gibby” Gibson

COLUMBIANA- Dwight "Gibby" Gibson, 81, died Sunday at 11:35 am at his home following a short illness.

Mr. Gibson was born June 24, 1931, in East Palestine, a son of C. Leroy and Mary C. Hawkins Gibson, and had lived here for 30 years coming from Florida.

Gibby owned and operated Orange City Truck Stop in Deland, Fla., for many years. He then owned and operated the 170 Truck Repair in Columbiana. He attended Church of the Nazarene in Columbiana and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

Mr. Gibson is survived by his wife, the former Evelyn M. Webber, whom he married Aug. 5, 1983; two daughters, Kathleen Lyon of Greenville, S.C., and Melanie Gibson of Goffstown, N.H.; four sons, Dana (Debbie) Gibson of Colo., Dean (Teresa) Gibson of Goffstown, N.H., Randy Gibson of Orange City, Fla., and Paul Gibson Wright of Pensacola, Fla.; three step-daughters, Janet (Robert) Leipheimer of Columbiana, Diane Klemann of Dayton and Angela (Jon) Walker of Dublin; seven step-sons, Jimmy Lemoine of Orange City, Fla., Steven (Tracy) Lemoine of Weare N.H., Chris (Julie) Lemoine of Orange City, Fla., Michael (Julie) Williams of Columbiana, Paul (Mary Ann) Williams of Leetonia, Andrew Williams of New Waterford and Matthew (Lenna) Williams of Salem; a sister, Dorothy Featherstone of Columbiana and Ruth Graves of Jacksonville, Fla.; 28 grandchildren and step-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Daryl Gibson; a step-daughter, Lisa Evans; and a brother, Roland Gibson.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home in Columbiana with Pastor Jan Winnale officiating. Burial will follow in Crest Haven Memorial Gardens where military honors will be accorded by the Benjamin Firestone Post 290 American Legion Honor Guard. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley.
