LISBON - Alcohol is suspected to have been a factor in a one-vehicle traffic accident that claimed the life of 21-year-old Brian L. Leek on Nov. 25.
According to a preliminary report issued by the Ohio Highway Patrol, troopers at the crash scene detected an odor of alcohol, although results of tests performed on Leek have yet to be completed.
Interviews of people with knowledge of Leek's actions revealed Leek had attended several parties that evening and had fallen asleep at one of them. The interviewees said since drinking had occurred, Leek was expected to spend the night at one of the party spots, but he woke up and decided to leave instead.
Excessive speed may have also been a contributing factor.
Leek, state Route 39, Wellsville, was driving east on state Route 518 in Franklin Township at 4:13 a.m. Nov. 25 when his pickup truck struck a guardrail. Leek, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from his truck.
